Smuggle Inn boasts the most unique location in the area; we are perched right on the tip of Bara Point, giving you that end-of-the-earth feeling as you gaze out over the North Atlantic ocean. We invite you to enjoy the best sunsets in Atlantic Canada, world-class hiking, and all the dramatic landscapes Newfoundland has become famous for. This is not your "Poppy's" rustic fishing cabin! Our cabins are fully renovated, winterized, and include all the amenities you'd expect in a modern home - while still keeping the outport Newfoundland charm. After a day of exploring, this is the perfect refuge to cozy up to a cackling fire, roast some s'mores, people-watch the fishermen on the dock below, listen to the ocean waves hitting our cliffs, and enjoy the sunsets. Smuggle Inn is a 2-bedroom cabin with 2 queen beds. There is a futon in the living room which pulls out to a single bed. We have a fully stocked kitchen with everything you need to entertain, including all your kitchen basics, cooking essentials, spices, full fridge/freezer, oven, and small appliances. When not being used by guests, our cabins are well-loved and used by our own families. As such, you'll find personal touches throughout the space, from family photos to well-loved books and board games. While we keep personal items tucked away so that the cabin is all yours to enjoy, you may find nonperishables in the pantry or freezer. Please note that our furry friends, a cat and a dog, have also enjoyed this space. While we make every effort to keep the cabin clean, those with allergies may want to take this into consideration.

Phenomenal spot. Just gorgeous all around, super comfy in beautiful surroundings. Enjoyed the nearby hiking trails and dinner at Myrtle’s in town. Highly recommend!!

The location is stunning, with spectacular views from the point which is a short walk to the end of the yard. The area had beautiful hiking trails and beautiful rugged views of the rugged Newfoundland shorelines.

Enjoy exclusive access to the most spectacular place to watch the sunset in Atlantic Canada! Bara Point is a stunning, rugged peninsula that projects out into the North Atlantic ocean and makes you feel you’ve found the “edge of the world”. As guests of Bara Point Cottages, you have exclusive access to Bara Point and the surrounding grounds.
We proudly have 3 cabins available on adjacent properties. Portside Cabin is a 1-bedroom ocean-view cabin with direct views of Little Port Dock. It shares a property with the Family House, a 3-bedroom fully-accessible cabin. Both cabins can be rented independently, but are often rented together due to their close proximity. Smuggle Inn, a 2-bedroom house, is perched “on the point” - the property neighbouring Portside/Family House. Guests from all three cabins have exclusive access to Bara Point and Bara Point Sunrise Trail. Please contact us if you plan on renting more than one cabin as we do offer a discounted rate!
Winding above the cabins, you have access to Bara Point Sunset Trial, a private trail which takes you along dramatic cliffs, panoramic views of the Bay of Islands coastline, nesting gulls, and offers spectacular views of the sunrise. Please note: this trail is currently being upgraded and is not well marked at time of writing. Please use at your own discretion.
Bara Point is also home to incredible wildlife including moose, lynx, humpback whales, orcas, porpoises, sea otters, nesting gulls, and seals. Please be aware that there have been reports of bears in the surrounding area.
The surrounding area boasts endless opportunities to get outside during all 4 seasons: hiking, cycling, mountain biking, fishing, ATVing, paddling, beachcombing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and more.
We would be happy to help source rentals of equipment to ensure you make the most out of our outdoor adventure paradise!

• James Cook Heritage Trail (moderate-difficult, 7km)
• Murray Mountain Trail (difficult, 8km)
• Cape Blow Me Down Trail (moderate-difficult, 7.6km)
• Copper Mine Falls Trail (easy, 1km)
