The Old Sweet Shop is a quintessential chocolate box cottage - with a hot tub! Sleeping eight, there are high-quality furnishings, bedding and linen. The large kitchen/dining room is perfect for socialising. A sweeping staircase, thick stone walls, beams, and fireplace sit alongside fast Wi-Fi. The four comfortable bedrooms each have their own bathrooms. The pretty garden has furniture for al fresco dining. Family and dog-friendly. On-site parking for two cars. VisitEngland five star gold rated. The Old Sweet Shop is a charming 17th century cottage that has undergone an extensive and faithful restoration. It is full of character from its past when it was a much-loved local sweet shop and grocery store. Features include a sweeping staircase, thick stone walls, exposed beams and a large fireplace. Guests will enjoy the most wonderful sense of space and natural light in this property. The large and sociable kitchen/dining area is well-equipped with everything you need. The sitting room is large and airy, with plenty of room for a party of eight. The bedrooms - each named after favourite sweets from yesteryear - have Hypnos mattresses that make for a very good night's sleep. We offer high-quality furniture and furnishings, sumptuous bedding and linens, and lovely soft towels. The enclosed garden offers an al fresco dining area, a summer house and lawned area. We're child and dog friendly, and the hot tub is the 'icing on the cake' as many guests describe it in their feedback. The photo walls are such a nice feature and we have so much fun playing ‘just dance’ in the evenings. The beds were so comfortable! The cottage was delightful! The location was lovely, only a 15 minute walk down to Minehead beach. The garden was well kept and the perfect space with the hot tub (this was cleaned each day which was a nice touch) Lucy arranged a call before the stay to run through everything and was always on hand to answer any questions. The space in the cottage was perfect for 6 adults, a baby and a dog and the added homely touches of baby toys and biscuits left for arrival were appreciated! All round, great stay!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at 22 Vicarage Road in Somerset, England, and it was an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived, I was captivated by the charm and tranquility of this beautiful retreat. The house itself exudes character and warmth. It's evident that great care has been taken to preserve its traditional features, while still providing modern comforts. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The attention to detail is remarkable, and every aspect of the house has been thoughtfully designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. One of the highlights of my visit was the meticulously maintained garden. It's an oasis of tranquility, perfect for enjoying a morning cup of tea. The garden offers a variety of seating areas, allowing you to relax and soak in the peaceful ambiance while taking in the beauty of the surrounding nature.
This is one of the nicest places we've ever stayed, and we'd love to return some day. The facilities are great, everything was spotlessly clean, and the additional welcoming touches were really appreciated. Our host was very attentive and responsive, both in advance of our arrival and during our stay. The property itself is beautiful, has real character, and is well equipped. It's also well situated close to town and the beach, but nevertheless in a lovely peaceful community.
This was such a beautiful place to stay at over Christmas with the family. On arrival it was easy to check in with a key lock box and shortly after was met by someone who talked us through how to use the hot tub. The house was incredibly clean and smelt so fresh throughout. The beds were so comfortable and such cosy bedding. There was everything we needed throughout our stay and to cook a full Christmas dinner, which was fantastic. The area was so picturesque and a 10 minute walk into Minehead where you could find everything you need that also lead to the seafront and arcades that the children really enjoyed. I could not recommend this lovely cottage enough and hope to return in the future. Thank you to Lucy and her team who made this stay so special ❤️ x

The Old Sweet Shop is in the quietest and prettiest part of the Victorian town of Minehead alongside beautiful whitewashed thatched cottages at the foot of the historic church steps. The cottage is within an International Dark Sky Reserve and guests can enjoy the constellations from the garden. Choose to relax in the peaceful surroundings of the cottage or take a short stroll to the bustling seaside town for its sandy beach, historic harbour, parade of shops, farmers market, and cafes, pubs and restaurants serving traditional food and drink. Minehead is the terminus of the heritage railway and the first section of the south-west coast path from Minehead to Porlock. Exmoor is best explored by car, where you have the freedom to stop and admire the beautiful views and wildlife (Exmoor ponies, deer, birds and farm animals). There's a local bus service, the heritage Steam Railway from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard (all 37 miles of it), and the Exmoor Coaster, an open-top bus that runs along the A39 from Minehead to Lynmouth from February to September/October.
