An excellent location within easy walking distance of the great shops and restaurants of the North Spenard area. It takes 3 minutes to walk to Spenard Rd. and as you head south you'll come to the renowned Chilkoot Charlies, a historic Alaska drinking establishment known for it's many different bars with all sorts of live music and events, Ray's Vietnamese food is across the street from the bar, continue south and you'll see Alaska Mountaineering and Hiking with Mamma O's Seafood, Organic Oasis, and Play It Again Sports on the right (a great place for used sporting goods as well as rentals), also on the right is Bear Tooth Theater and Pub my favorite cinema, tickets are around $5 dollars and you can drink their own brewed beer and eat great pizza while watching indie and late run films. Still on Spenard Rd. and about a 10 minute walk now from the house is Spenard Roadhouse a place with an excellent brunch and arguably the best bloody marys in town, REI is across the street and next to it is Hearth known for their artisanal pizza and craft beer as well as Middle Way Café serving great breakfast and lunch. There are plenty of small independent shops and boutiques all in the area just waiting to be explored I still haven’t been to them all!
If you're looking for outdoors activities in the area head north and down the hill on Spenard. After about 5 minutes you'll come to a small park next to Westchester Lagoon, continue on the path and go through the tunnel and you'll come to a Frisbee golf course as the trail continues along the main part of the lagoon. The lagoon (lake) itself is a relaxing place for a picnic or bird watching, the city maintains a large ice skating area during the winter months. After the lagoon, the trail turns into the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. If you go south it will parallel the coast past Fish Creek and on couple miles to Earthquake Park which is an easy and scenic bike ride and decent jog. If you're feeling really ambitious the trail goes out to Kincaid Park which is about 9 miles from the house. Kincaid Park if you prefer to drive has plenty of hiking trails, an 18 basket Frisbee golf course, groomed cross-country skiing in the winter, sand dunes with an adjacent motorsport course. All of the trail is scenic with plenty of nature to enjoy. It is not uncommon to see moose ambling about, give them some distance and respect and they'll continue to be good neighbors.
Another option is to turn north on the Coastal Trail which after around 1.5 miles takes you to downtown Anchorage with many shops, restaurants, breweries, parks and bars. Also along the trail is the AK Railroad Museum, Ulu Factory, and Ship Creek.
If you want a good day hike, Flat Top is a half an hour drive away and a vigorous climb with spectacular views of Anchorage and the surrounding mountains and Turnagain Arm. Alyeska Resort is an hour away with good skiing in the winter but also a tram in the summer for mountaintop dining and hiking. A reserve for rescued wild animals down in the Girdwood area as well as the Portage Glacier lake cruise. In the Eagle River area there’s a nature center with trails through beaver wetlands, Thunderbird falls, and Eklutna Lake with kayak rentals. There's so much more to see and do but I don't want to try and list everything. Let me know what you're looking for and hopefully I can give you some pointers.

It's a great location with easy access to what Anchorage has to offer. Downtown is a 5 minute car ride and the airport is 15 minutes. There are car rentals at the airport or you can use Uber, Lyft, or a cab. There is a bus stop about a 3 minute walk from the house on Spenard Rd. and slightly north of Fireweed Lane. The number 40 bus makes several runs an hour between the airport and downtown stopping close to the house. You can find more information at People Mover Bus Anchorage website.
