Homeland of the Latin poet Quinto Orazio Flacco (Venosa, 8 December 65 BC - Rome, 27 November 8 BC) and of the Renaissance madrigalist Carlo Gesualdo Di Venosa (Venosa, 8 March 1566 - Gesualdo, 8 September 1613), it is one of the most beautiful villages of Italy.
Venosa is a splendid city, where time passes between a past and present. This can be seen once you arrive in Piazza Orazio, where stands the statue dedicated to Horace, one of the greatest poets of the Roman era, near what may have been his home. To get to know every corner of this treasure trove of art, culture and spirituality, you have to go to the northern area of Basilicata, in the heart of the Vulture Melfese.
Here, on a plateau between two valleys and surrounded by lush vegetation and numerous hills, Venosa reveals itself in all its beauty.

Reach Venosa by TRAIN
Reaching Venosa by train is not recommended, as there are no stops for the Venosa - Maschito railway station, except in the stations of the neighboring villages of Barile, Rionero in Vulture, Melfi and Spinazzola.

FROM THE NORTH - From the Adriatic coast, take the A14 Adriatic motorway and exit at the Foggia junction. Take the S.S. 655 Bradanica, Foggia - Matera, and exit at Venosa sud.
From the Tyrrhenian coast, take the A1 Autostrada del Sole. At the Caserta junction, take the A16 Napoli - Canosa and exit at Candela. Take the S.S. 655 Foggia - Matera and exit at Venosa sud.
FROM SOUTH - From the south, take the Salerno - Reggio Calabria motorway, exit at Sicignano and proceed to the motorway link: Sicignano - Potenza. Take the S.S. 658 Potenza - Melfi. Exit at the junction for Barile-Ginestra-Venosa and follow the signs.
From Bari, follow the motorway towards Naples until reaching the Cerignola Ovest tollbooth; then follow the signs for Venosa.
From Bari, take the S.S. 16, towards Foggia, take the A14 motorway towards S.S. 529 - Cerignola. Take the Cerignola Ovest exit.
From Matera, take the S.P. 6 direction S.P. 8, take the S.S. 655 towards S.P. 25 - Spinazzola, exit at Palazzo San Gervasio and continue towards Spinazzola / Lavello / Candela / Foggia S.S. 168, take the S.P. 25 direction Lavello / Venosa, exit at Venosa sud / Montemilone, continue on the S.P. Ofantina towards Venosa.
