Centrally located, literally around the corner from Alamo Square & the famous Painted Ladies. Divisadero street has (1/2 block) many unique shops, specialty food stores, bars and restaurants, that are all within walking distance. The entrance to Golden Gate Park, aka the Panhandle, is located 2 blocks away, and the Castro, as well as the Upper and Lower Haight, are within walking distance. If you drive a car, the free app SPOTANGELS is worth checking out. There's plenty of public transport near by.
Alamo Square Park, the neighborhood's focal point and namesake, consists of four city blocks at the top of a hill overlooking much of downtown San Francisco, with a number of large and architecturally distinctive mansions along the perimeter, including the "Painted Ladies", a well-known postcard motif. Alamo Hill, was a watering hole on the horseback trail from Mission Dolores to the Presidio in the 1800s. In 1856, Mayor James Van Ness created a 12.7 acre park surrounding the watering hole, creating "Alamo Square"
Alamo Square Park includes a playground and a tennis court, and is frequented by neighbors, tourists, and dog owners. On a clear day, the Transamerica Pyramid building and the tops of the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge can be seen from the park's center. The San Francisco City Hall can be seen directly down Fulton Street.

San Francisco is only 7 miles wide, by 7 miles long, so getting around is best done by foot, public transportation, or by UBER.
If you have a car, I advise downloading the app SPOTANGELS. It is free and will show you areas where you can park for longer than a few hours, and sometimes for a few days. It will also show you where there are parking garages.
Street parking is "generally" free after 6 and on weekends, but remember to check the signs. Daytime parking comes with restrictions and at times can be difficult. Most streets require a permit to park longer than 2 hours Monday - Friday. Regardless of where you park, always double check street signs and clear car of valuables.
