Guerneville · 整套小木屋 · 2室2床1.0卫 · 可住4人 · Mount Jackson Schoolhouse: historic, comfortable
Come stay at the historic Mt. Jackson Schoolhouse! This school turned cozy cabin, built in 1883 for miners' children, is five minutes from downtown Guerneville and the Russian River – but also offers privacy and tranquility for those seeking a timeless getaway near Sonoma County's many celebrated attractions. The Schoolhouse is the quintessential cozy cabin in the woods: a covered porch with rocking chairs, a cedar-paneled living room with a stone fireplace, and a cozy loft bedroom with a double bed. There is also a small ground level bedroom with a trundle bed which can be set up three different ways: one twin bed with the other stowed beneath, two twin beds side by side, or both together as one king bed. (Please let me know how you would like this bed set up to meet your party’s needs!) The bathroom has a sink, toilet, and shower/tub. The kitchen is well furnished with a full sized fridge and freezer, a gas stove and oven, sink, and all the dishes and utensils you're likely to need. The living room enjoys a comfortable leather sectional and a stone fireplace for our rainy months. Number of guests: while our Airbnb is listed for 4 guests (two in the double bed upstairs plus two in the tiny second bedroom, which has a twin bed with a trundle bed underneath), Sonoma County permits us to host up to 6 overnight guests (not counting children under age 3). So if your party includes adults or older kids who are happy to sleep on a couch, camping pad, or wherever, a couple more is still a possibility! Just let us know and we'll put out extra blankets, towels, and so on. The leather sectional couch is quite comfortable. Also, up to 12 total guests (not counting children under age 3) are permitted during the daytime, so you can have some extra friends or family come meet here during your stay – we (and County regulations) simply ask that you keep your gatherings calm and quiet and be sure nobody parks in the road. Washer and dryer: while listed in the low-on-detail "amenities" section, please note the laundry facilities available to you are not in fact at the Schoolhouse, but next door in a lean-to behind our house. Just give us a heads up if you'd like to do laundry, so we can get our own laundry out of the way and show you over. We love to travel too and know what a difference it can make to wash a load or two right where you're staying!
Brendan's place is super comfortable and welcoming and well-organized. I had everything I needed, from kitchen amenities, to wood for a nice fire, to warm and Natural bedding, books regarding local plants and local history. extra blankets and plenty of light and heating. The Schoolhouse is extremely well-located for activities on Hwy 1, for wine-tasting, for hikes, for Russian River activities and for plenty of local and near-local cafes, restaurants and regional and seasonal activities. Brendon was a very responsive, accommodating, helpful and gracious, warm host. I had a truly lovely stay.
Idylllic spot to explore Armstrong woods, amazing old growth forest. This 1883 schoolhouse is incredibly comfortable. Branden was a warm and welcoming host.
This little schoolhouse was so dreamy and cozy on a rainy winter weekend! Our family loved building fires in the fireplace and listening to the rain on the roof. Easy drives into town to eat out, out to the ocean to see the dramatic waves, and down the street to Armstrong Redwoods for a mossy walk in the forest. Brendan was a wonderful host, building a fire for us to warm the cabin before we arrived, and inviting our kids to feed the chickens and ducks on our last morning. We loved it!
Had a wonderful time at Brendan's. The place is very cute and comfortable, and perfectly located. Close to town, close to the coast and close to the beautiful redwood reserve. The place had such a nice old cabin feel and didn't want to leave.
We are in a quiet, wooded canyon about three miles north of the friendly town center of Guerneville, very near Sonoma County's only old-growth redwood reserve, Armstrong Woods. Our little road is a renowned cycling destination. It's also nice for walking if you keep an ear out for approaching cars and are prepared to step to the side of the road. Visitors to the Schoolhouse can relax under the oaks and take a bit of nature, or head out to the bars and restaurants in Guerneville for a night out. The beautiful Sonoma Coast is only half an hour away, and opportunities abound for hiking, wine tasting, and more!
Since we're in a rural area in a highly car-dependent part of the world, the easiest way to get around here is by vehicle (and the Schoolhouse has enough parking space for 4+ cars).
Bicycle: many guests like to bring their bikes, and we have some world-class cycling scenery – but due to our remoteness, it takes commitment to not also have a car in this area. From the town center of Guerneville, a ride to the Schoolhouse is a gentle climb of 154 feet over 3.1 miles, or 47 m over 5 km.
Public transit: Sonoma County Transit's Routes 20 and 20x connect Guerneville to larger towns like Santa Rosa and Sebastopol (where you can connect by bus and train to San Francisco). They also have a free shuttle around the Guerneville area that comes as close to us as the Russian River Senior Center on Armstrong Woods Road (2.1 miles, 3.4 km away). While there are options, please be aware that traveling by public transit here takes much longer than driving and can be frustrating. Buses don't run as frequently or reliably here as in many other countries. It can be difficult to carry much luggage since buses here don't have special compartments for it. Often, our buses only have room for 2-3 bicycles on an exterior rack, and cyclists will be turned away if these spaces are full.
There is a local taxi company, R2T2, as well as some Uber and Lyft drivers, at least during tourist season.
