A very last-minute booking - for us it was a great location for walking and fishing. Very close walk to the sea and incredibly quiet. The whole island is easily accessible from here by car for those staying a bit longer than we did. The house was old and quirky with lots of interesting history. It was comfortable, clean and had everything as described; perfect for self-catering as it has lots of kitchen equipment (though we mostly ate out!) The hosts were brilliant and even managed to book ferries for us at zero notice on a busy bank hols - firework display on way out was an unexpected bonus, as was the glorious sunshine on Saturday! Would definitely recommend.
Luther and Sophia are wonderful hosts, very responsive, friendly and helpful. The place was clean, near and tidy. it was exactly as described. It was really a pleasure spending time in this vintage home. it is a couple of minutes walk from a private beach which is an added advantage. quiet neighbourhood.
My family had a wonderful relaxing few days away , enjoying some quality time together. Fortunately, the weather was kind and we managed to walk to the botanical gardens in Ventnor on one day and then to Sandown the next having visited Shanklin Chine on the way, and getting the number 3 bus back. The local fishmonger in Ventnor was great and we were delighted to be able to buy local crab meat. The local pub was charming and we enjoyed our last evening meal there ☺️. The house was very comfortable and nicely decorated. Sophia was very responsive and communicated well with us.
Bonchurch is a sleepy magical village located in the South of the Isle of Wight, a peaceful village yet walking distance to busier Ventnor. Steeped in history the roads are lined with beautiful stone built period properties with a Bonchurch Pond located centrally in the village. A short walk from the property through a private pathway and the 'Secret Gate' (to which you will be given a key) leads to the beach in just 3 minutes via St Boniface Old Church, one of the few medieval churches in England dedicated to this Saxon monk who died in 755. The steep landscape of the village dropping to the beautiful and rugged coastline means that Bonchurch is a truly unique place.
Within Bonchurch is the Bonchurch Inn which offers fantastic Italian food and their infamous 'Life Changing Lasagne,' good wine and local beers.
You can walk along the seafront (10-15 minutes) to neighbouring Ventnor, a larger Victorian seaside town, which offers many eateries, pubs, local shops and a lovely beach to relax on.
You can park your car in the driveway outside the property where one space is available (further on road parking available very close). You can walk from the property around the village, to the coast in 3 or so minutes and a little further a field to the neighbouring towns. To venture further on the island you really need to rely on your car (or a good electric bike).
