Over 25 trips and eight years of using AirBnb we've had nothing but good experiences. We've met fabulous people, seen amazing properties and locations and never had reason to leave anything but a 5-star review. All good things comes to an end I suppose. The trouble began when we made a fire in the living room, something Teresa told us we could. Soon after it got going a small amount of smoke started to seep through cracks in the stove ceramic and into the living room (it's an old stove with many cracks). It turns out that this classic type woodstove needs a damper opened before you get the fire going. We naturally notified Teresa right away, who called in her husband who came to help us out. The rest of the night progressed without a problem and we aired the living room for a bit to get the smoke out and enjoyed a movie on the big-screen telly. The next day Lars-Erik came down to tell us the living room had been damaged and that we'd be liable for restoration. We were taken aback as that was not at all our perception, but we of course reported things to our insurance company. Over the following days the atmosphere deteriorated. We went skiing for a day, to come back to find that someone had clearly been in our space without notifying us beforehand. It’s not the end of the world, but still not ok. Teresa was asking us to make payments out of pocket to "help them out". At that point things became sufficiently uncomfortable for us to pull the plug (on New Year's Eve, no less). We decided to cut our stay short and find other accommodation. Our review comes to three stars as the location truly is a gem. The house, while old and worn in places, is overall well-kept and has a lot of charm. It's however our opinion that the hosts were trying to fabricate a situation where they can collect money, plain and simple. We're two parties here and will thus have a difference of opinion, but so be it. We reported the matter to Airbnb who stated that hosts cannot claim money directly from guests, but that such matters are to go through their Resolution Center. Fortunately, AirBnb has a plethora of amazing places to explore, and we’ve already booked the next trip. Safe travels everyone.
