This air-conditioned penthouse apartment comes fully furnished, flatscreen TV, cable television channels, modern functional kitchen with gas stove and refrigerator and breakfast bar, bathroom with rainfall shower. Free wi-fi access is available. Best of all is the spacious seaview balcony for a cold drink under sunny Turkish skies and afternoon "Meltemi" breezes. The complex also has a huge swimming pool, Mediterranean gardens and a Turkish barbecue oven.
"Güllük" translates as “place of roses” and is a charming fishing village that still shows off traditional pastimes but equally abounds with modern living.
There are many welcoming bars and restaurants dotted around its pretty bay within minutes walking distance.
Historically, Gulluk, formerly known as Küllük prior to 1933, was an import-export harbour for the Greeks trading during the Ottoman Empire period. The store buildings and warehouses are today restaurants and shops.
Town/Supermarkets are about 10 minutes walking distance to the main town where you can find plenty of restaurants and bars- about 800m down hill. If you have groceries and want to take a taxi back, there are plenty of taxis on the esplanade. There is a BIM supermarket about 200m from the apartment which is pretty well stocked. A further 3 minutes walk brings you to Carrefour, and a further 5 minutes walk also brings you to Migros which is a huge supermarket stocking everything you would need. There is a Dia supermarket in the main square. Recently opened is a Migros Express (about 7 minutes walk ). There are several green-grocers, bakeries, Turkish ice-cream vendors etc in the town.
There are a few internet cafes in Gulluk, however the site now has Wi-Fi access. The signal is often strongest by the swimming pool. A laptop on a sun-lounger by the pool overlooking the Aegean sea is not a bad way to work (if you need to!).
Doctor
There is a doctor at the Gulluk medical centre in the town square. There are also 2 chemists/pharmacies in Gulluk.
Restaurants
Berkhan restaurant on the Gulluk esplanade is very good – they do grilled fresh whole sea bream (landed same day). Behind the esplanade in the town square is a pension next to the vegetable market. They run a fantastic kebab shop. Good prices. The bakery in the square is also really good. Try the little cheese and spinach puff pastries (Borek), especially once they are fresh out of the oven. For drinks, we like the rooftop bar, the Anchor. Fuego beach club to the south of the main town is a good spot. They have nice furniture, pool tables, table tennis, food and drinks. It becomes a nightclub after dark.
Facilities
Gulluk is a very relaxed seaside resort with more than enough facilities to entertain such as beaches, beach clubs and good bars and restaurants. They also have full day boat trips from the promenade including BBQ lunch, beach volleyball, mud baths and swimming. As Gulluk is much less touristy than Bodrum, restaurant prices are less than half of Bodrum's prices making it a value for money destination.
Day Trips
Gulluk is located between Bodrum (to the south) and the historic sites at Ephesus (to the north). Tours to Ephesus can be organised in Gulluk town. You can organise boat day trips from Gulluk esplanade (very good value). Diving trips and day trips to the Greek islands (Kos, Rhodes, Kalymnos) run from Bodrum harbour. Restaurants in Bodrum are very nice especially the ones in the old town overlooking the castle and the sea . A really nice spot to eat and drink in Bodrum is the yacht club by the marina. There are also many luxury boutiques nearby. Try some of the towns around the Bodrum peninsular. Our favourite is Gumusluk. Restaurants, art markets, beach and you can walk through shallow water out to an island covered in archaeological ruins.
