Hasu was a gorgeous accomodation in a very beautiful area of Kyoto. Situated right near the river, it has all the amenities you’ll need in the style of an old ryokan. The bathroom, with its rain shower, was a highlight as most bathrooms in Japan don’t have a free standing shower head let along something as lush as a rain shower head. Communication was amazing with the host being very quick to respond to any questions or recommendations. (We asked for a ramen place and they quickly sent us a recommendation.) However, the mattress and pillows were very hard and we had the worst sleep we’ve had during our three week trip around Japan. Also the walls are extremely thin - we could hear the person next to us snoring which wasn’t a great experience. If the accomodation changed their bedding and also added some form of sound proofing this airbnb would be very close to perfect.

The home was a great stage for us for the six nights. We looked forward to it. The location is excellent. Easy walk to Kyoto station and also an easy walk to the Gion area. In addition you can also take the subway or local buses which were only a minute or two away. The area is quiet yet there are great cafes, Izakayas etc within a quick walk. Definitely recommend it!!

Beautiful, thoughtfully remodeled building in a quaint neighborhood right by the Kamo River. My only complaints for an otherwise great stay were: the bed leaves something to be desired (wasn’t comfy for me as a side sleeper), lack of bath (it’s just so nice to soak after a long day), and the sound insulation is not great. You will hear your neighbors. Pack earplugs.

Super clean and the location is perfect. Met the host and he is very nice and responsive. We stayed on the second floor and could hear our upstairs neighbors walking around loudly some mornings, but no big deal. The inside feels very modern but also authentic. Will definitely stay again.
