Welcome to the Bell Tent! Come in through the little gate and across the bridge and enter a magical world with only the sounds of birdsong or the occasional mooing of a cow. The Bell Tent is set in its own totally peaceful and private area with views all the way to Bel Tor on Dartmoor. Play on the swing, laze about in the hammock or make a fire in the fire pit. If you want to get away from the pressures of your busy life, come and stay in the Bell Tent and enjoy the healing power of nature. The Bell Tent is 15 feet in diameter, with coir matting, ethnic rugs and sheepskins and a wood burner to keep you cosy. We provide you with the first 2 baskets of wood for the wood burner for free. There’s a double bed and a small double futon with duvets and pillows. You will need to bring your own bed linen unless you want me to provide it at a small extra charge. In the garden area you have your own swing and hammock and a fire pit where you can cook over the open fire or watch the flames as the sun sets. You also have your own fully equipped rustic kitchen complete with two ring camping gas cooker, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and a cafetière. There is a compost toilet and woodfired shower. All facilities at the Bell Tent are for your own personal use.
Our second two-week trips to the Bell Tent and we loved it even more. So quiet and beautiful, so well located, and such an idyllic peaceful place to be, even with some weather worries. The tent holds up perfectly during windstorm and torrential rain. The stove kept us warm when we needed it! Alfie was even more adorable now he's older and it was just lovely to be greeted so enthusiastically when we came home from a day out. Absolutely and completely recommend (but not when we want to go there, please! 😁)
We feel so lucky to have stayed in such a unique & remarkably lovely place. The bell tent was gorgeous & comfortable and everything we needed had been thought of, for a few days (mostly) off the grid. Our 10 year old got lots of practice at lighting wood fires (be it the log burner, or for a camp fire, or to heat water for a hot shower!) I hadn’t appreciated just how peaceful/private the setting is and how wonderful the views would be, across the wild flower field to nearby Bel Tor. The children loved exploring and befriending animals (frogs, horses, etc - & Alfie the owners’ playful dog) and could play safely with a lot of independence. We had a mix of golden evenings by the campfire and cosy ones in the tent with the log burner when it rained. Larry & Wendy were so kind and helpful. I wasn’t fully mobile for our visit and although I could walk easily on crutches, Larry insisted on driving me in/out to the far field in their jeep; it was an easy 5 min walk from the car for the others.
We had an unforgettable stay here. Wendy and Larry made us so welcome. The caravan was warm, comfy and beautifully laid out and the wood burner was a joy to watch in the evenings. The walk to the Moor is a must do! Stunning views and great walking. Thank you.
We had a gloriously peaceful and relaxing two weeks at the Bell Tent and already want to be back there! The hosts are a lovely friendly couple and their delightful dog Alfie, who was a regular welcome visitor to our otherwise extremely private field. Our beagles LOVED him arriving for their playdates and occasionally sharing their breakfast - he's adorable. The space was well laid out to make the most of the flattest parts of the field, and the kitchen, bathroom, and tent were all great, supplied with everything you need and comfortable. We had a rainy, drizzly start, and a heatwave by the end, and were comfy throughout. We used the stove to warm up the tent a couple of nights - lovely and cosy, and built a fire in the firepit a few times too - lots of fun. The bed was really comfortable, we slept well and enjoyed hearing the lical wildlife from our bed (cows and sheep and horses and cockerels all joyfully making a racket, but it's all a delightful soothing racket!) Having a hosepipe tap with water and being able to swap out freezeblocks at the barn near the entrance was really useful and our 17year old very much appreciated the plugs available at the barn to recharge phones - it also had signal for his phone so he didn't mind the 5 minute walk! The location was fantastic for exploring Dartmoor, Devon, and we popped down to Cornwall a couple of times too, Tavistock and Ashburton are both great places to get supplies and within a short drive. We even went walking on the moor with Llamas one morning, which was a great experience. I miss seeing sheep and horses everywhere every time I go out now! We'd love to come back someday. ❤️ Highly recommended.
We are on Dartmoor which is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. You can walk directly from the property onto open moorland where there are tors to climb and secret swimming spots for wild swimming.
There are also lots of beautiful beaches within 40 minutes drive.
The nearest shops are in Ashburton which is a 10 minutes drive down the hill. There are couple of small supermarkets, a couple of delis and a very popular vegetarian restaurant called Rafikis. Totnes is also worth a visit. It has been named one of the 10 most funky towns in the world! The Friday and Saturday markets are wonderful.
We strongly advise coming by car.
