We had a very lovely time at Star’s cabin. It was very spacious and comfortable. Star was an excellent host. Very communicative and welcoming. The surrounding terrain was beautiful with hiking trails accessible from the property. We had a wonderful visit.
We had a very enjoyable 2 night stay. The cabin is very large, well appointed with modern amenities. Would work well for a family or group with multiple bedrooms & bathrooms. Very spacious for just the two of us. Water is from a spring & not a well so it is delicious. We did a sunset canoe paddle on the large pond and saw wildlife both day and night. Star answered all of my questions ahead of time about the other buildings & layout of the large property.. There are several trails you can access right from property as well as other trail options a short drive away. Although the cabin is close to the highway, traffic is limited & almost non existent at night. The small pond behind cabin with rainbow trout was nice. We had a tasty dinner & good drinks at the restaurant at Greensprings which is less than 5 minutes away. This is a good option if you are not wanting to cook every meal in the spacious cabin kitchen or make the drive into Ashland. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay at Star's cabin.
Gorgeous house and gorgeous location! We had such a wonderful time staying here. We went on a one mile hike from the house to a stunning lookout point with a view of Mt. Shasta. We spent the afternoon canoeing and swimming on the pond, and the evening relaxing on the porch. The location is great because it's only three miles down the road from a delicious restaurant, and it's not too far to get to Ashland. But once we got to the house we didn't want to leave the property! Definitely would book again in the future.
Our home is located in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument of Southern Oregon. The monument was designated for its biodiversity and is full of hiking trails, gorgeous vistas, and land to explore. The Pacific Crest Trail passes through just a few miles up the road. Our property was a lumber mill in the early 1900s. Remnants of those days can be found around the property and seen in the historic photos posted in the Cookhouse. The mill pond is mostly used for swimming and canoeing these days. In the 70s, the space was transitioned to a program for college students seeking a different kind of semester, which is still active today from Aug- Dec. Check out the Oregon Extension for more info. There are a few very kind year round residents nearby. A small working farm with a flock of free range chickens and very active organic garden, along with other sustainable projects can be seen around the property. Ask a local and they'd be happy to tell you more. There is a covered pavilion with grills near the pond, a chapel with epic views for gathering or quiet contemplative time, a stocked library with over 11,000 books, and the old Cookhouse, where the mill workers were fed, which still has the big wood fired cookstove from 1911. Ashland is our closest town.
