Mérignac, Charente, is a small Cognac producing town in the middle of the Fins Bois region of Cognac.
Here, this old stone townhouse with all modern conveniences sits amongst similar neighbours.
*The Boulangerie is mere steps away, and there are plenty of places to explore on foot if you are looking for an apres-diner constitutional.
*The Co-op food store is about 7 mins walk, as is the Pharmacy, the Butcher and the Traiteur. A new Atelier Pizza shop serves some of the best thin crust pizza!
*The P.O and Cabinet Medicale are in that same vicinity.

Being so close to Jarnac (7kms) Cognac (16kms) and Rouillac (13kms) you may want to food shop there, or at any of the markets that are detailed in our Welcome Folder, in the house.
You can park your car in the large garage on-site and keep it cool.
The outdoor dining terrace almost always has a gentle breeze, and the Titanic-style deck chairs on the sun terrace are comfy enough to take an afternoon nap in, under one of the parasols or shade cloth.
You aren't far from excellent restaurants ( open 7 days) and some city lights if you seek those (Jarnac, Cognac or 25kms to Angouleme). Live like a Local in the middle of a Cognac Distilling town, in this cool in summer/warm in winter stone house.
**SWIM: Safe River beaches in Jarnac, Ile Madame, Chareauneuf-sur-Charente, Bain des Dames, and many other small towns along the Charente River. Take a picnic to beautiful Bourg-Charente and enjoy the swimming there, or the huge shady trees.

No more than 60 mins to the nearest Atlantic beach, Royan Plage.
90 mins to La Rochelle and the off-shore Islands.

*Jonzac ( Les Antilles de Jonzac -Water park/Spa town and Patisserie!),
*Cognac (Distillery tours, Markets and Old Town),
*St Jean d'Angely (Cathedral ruins, Clock tower),
*Pons (The Donjon, views and History), and
*Saintes (The Roman Amphitheatre , Arch of Germanicus, et al, excellent shopping) among so many others not far away, there is plenty to keep you enthralled, amused and informed.
The Paléosite near Saintes is worth a visit if you have children in tow.
*60 mins to Bordeaux - Cité de Vine, Multiple parks, Exhibitions et al. Shopping.
*If it is sun and sea that you want, then the Atlantic coast at Royan and Rochefort, is only an hour west.
*Take the train from Cognac to La Rochelle and the Islands beyond, for the day, and enjoy this ancient seaport.
*Drive through the myriad small towns, explore the Charente River, take a picnic to the Table d'Orientation above Ségonzac in the Grand Champagne and survey the fabulous Charente River valley.
*Biking and walking tracks abound and are a great way to discover the area. Sample the local Eau de Vie (Cognac or Pineau Cognac) direct from the makers, when you see the sign at the gate "Vente Directe".
*Going east towards Limoges you can Chateaux-hop from La Rochfoucauld to Rochechouart. These fortified Chateaux are so different to the Pleasure Palaces of the Loire Valley.

Must-Do to add to your list. It is close to the large Friday morning market in Ribérac, just over the border in the Dordogne.
You will need a vehicle in this location.
Merignac, Charente, is just off the N141 highway, exit 18.
*Train (TGV) from Paris to Angouleme and pick up a rental car opposite the Gare (station). Merignac, (Charente) is about 36kms from Angouleme station.
*Fly into Bordeaux and rent a vehicle at the airport, just 1 1/2 hours south, or again, TGV from Bordeaux (free bus between the airport and station there) to Angouleme and rent your vehicle opposite the station.
Walking is a French national past time and there are plenty of 'walks' available in this area. You can rent bicycles for additional exercise and adventure.
If it is water you seek, Kayaks are available for hire in many small towns along the Charente River.
Under normal conditions, Festivals abound during the summer months, and planning for those is imperative.
