ALTURA
This pocket-sized seaside town, popular with Portuguese tourists, offers expansive dune backed Blue Flag beaches and an array of tempting eateries, serving freshly caught fish and seafood. Unassuming and conveniently located between charming Tavira and the handsome frontier town of Vila Real do Santo António, Altura is ideally positioned to enjoy the many attractions of this lesser-known part of the Algarve. With a choice of supermarkets, cafes, bars, restaurants and other amenities on your doorstep, then use of a car is not essential while airport transfers can be easily arranged.
Cuisine: Dotted around this typical Portuguese town, a varied and enticing mix of restaurants serve sumptuous dishes, many with very reasonably priced ‘dish of the day’ offerings. Stretching East, long walks can be taken along the soft shoreline taking in the other equally splendid beaches of Praia Verde and Cabeco, then onto ever popular Monte Gordo. Heading West, the sands stretch as far as the eye can see, merging effortlessly into the vast Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Nature: Nearby, visit the Reserva Natural do Sapal de Castro Marim, on the banks of the softly flowing Guadiana and home to countless birdlife. Covering an area of 2000 hectares these wetlands and salt marches provide excellent conditions for over 150 species of resident and migratory bird life including flamingos, redshanks, storks and avocets. A clearly marked network of tracks and trails provides an excellent excuse to enjoy walking and cycling within this very appealing nature reserve.
Activities: Kite-surfing, windsurfing and jet-ski are amongst some of the high-octane sports to practice at the beaches. Several local businesses provide hire equipment and professional tuition while bike hire is also available. A short distance inland, amongst the undulating verdant hills dotted with age old olive trees, renowned Monte Rei and Castro Marim Golf provide first quality golfing facilities amidst manicured and peaceful surroundings.

The great location of this villa ensures that all amenities are within easy walking distance. The use of a car is not essential when renting this property.
