The condo is great for families! There is an elevator, vey conveninet parking, and a washer/dryer on premises (note, however, that its coin operated and quite costly - almost $5 in quarters to do a full wash and dry cycle). There is an awesome swimming area behind the condo at Carlsmith Beach Park and we felt fortunate to have that steps away. The condo is also an easy drive (~8 minutes) from downtown Hilo. There were all the bare necessities at the condo that you need, but it is a bit bare bones and also dated. As like most properties in Hawaii near the beach, you see wear and tear from the elements and as the listing notes there is NO AC (but there are lots of fans, which help). We found the building to be pretty quiet and calm, despite being a mix of residents and visitors. The road out front is small (one lane each way) but pretty busy, so if you're sensitive to road noise you may not like that. However, if you open your back door or windows you hear the sounds of the waves!

This is a great place to stay in Hilo: you're steps from a beach that looks like the poster image for the word "paradise." It's a fairly basic apartment (though I'm not sure why they don't show a picture of the gorgeous view from one of the bedrooms in the listing!), which is fine, given how reasonably priced it is for the island. If you're looking for luxury, look elsewhere--but be prepared to pay 3x the price. If you're looking for a nice comfortable dwelling space that's ideally situated and very affordable, stay here!
