The Sutherland Family of Sibmister Farm would like to introduce to you Braeside Retreats: a brand-new collection of bespoke luxury accommodation pods handcrafted by skilled local tradesmen. Surrounded by fields of our sheep and cows, breathe in that fresh Caithness air and relax in the tranquillity of the countryside. Each spacious pod includes a king sized bed, 6-seater hot tub and private decked terrace, outdoor furniture and BBQ to make the most of the spectacular view. Nestled in the hillside between the small bustling highland town of Thurso and the small historic village of Castletown, Braeside Retreats lies in natural beauty spot with spectacular views overlooking the Pentland Firth and Orkney. The site is very family friendly and has its own children’s play area which includes a trampoline, swing set with a baby swing for wee ones, a sandpit, and a tower with slide and bucket pulley. We wish to offer children the opportunity to run around safely, bring a football or a kite to take advantage of our wide-open spaces and big skies. There is a fire-pit with communal seating area where we encourage families to hunt for kindling in the near-by forest and build a fire where they can toast marshmallows underneath the stars. Two of our pods are available for you to take your four-legged friend with you. As animal lovers and dog owners we are delighted to welcome dogs to the site. We are more than able to advise you on fantastic off lead adventures you can go on near-by.
We are well placed for local amenities, with a supermarket in Thurso just 4 miles away and an excellent local butchers plus well stocked corner shop in Castletown just 2 miles away. Castletown also houses a pub, a Fish and Chip shop and a Chinese Takeaway should you fancy a night off cooking! There are plenty of things to do near-by:
•Castle and Gardens of Mey - 15mins drive
•Dunnet Bay Distillery, offering tours and tastings of their famous “Rock Rose” Gin – 10 mins drive
•Dunnet Head, the most Northernly Point of the British Mainland – 10 mins drive
•Dunnet Forest – 10 mins drive
•Dunnet Sands – 10 mins drive
•John o Groats – 20 mins drive
•We are well placed for links to either the Scrabster or Gills Bay Ferry terminals (10 min drive to each) which offer daily sailings to Orkney. Why not go for a day trip!
•Near to Maiden Pap and Morven for hill-walking enthusiasts
As we are in a rural location, it is recommended to travel to us by car. However we are well used to cycling enthusiasts as we are on the NATIONAL 1 CYCLE ROUTE and the quiet country roads are perfect for exploring by bike. There are lots of excellent local taxi firms that could take you the short distance into Thurso or to the ferry terminals or airport for the next step of your journey, or into town if you fancy a night out with a glass of wine.
