This area of the Languedoc Roussillon in the Occitanie region, has something for everyone. Whether you have come to go skiing, walking, cycling, touring, canyoning, rafting or to simply tour the local villages, markets and other wonderful sights, everything is readily accessible.
Clara village is nestled in the foothills of Mount Canigou, and benefits from incredible views across the lush Conflent valley and beyond.
Ideally situated for walking and hiking, you will find a selection of maps and guide books showing many walks of varying difficulty.
The village also boasts Michelin rated restaurant where you can take lunch or dinner at reasonable prices - highly recommended.
There is a multitude of trekking to be had around and above Clara in the foothills of Mt Canigou. Or the more adventurous can hike to the top of this "magical mountain" revered by the Catalans.
Lots of sport and fun to be had in Clara including, Tennis, Boules, Fishing, Horse Riding etc.
Further afield, a 20 minute drive to Vinca, where there is a fresh water lake with a beach area. Swim in the lake, sunbathe on the beach or the lake can be used for non motorised sports.
This area is renown for canyoning and we can put you in touch with organisers.
This region is steeped in history and the hilltop fortresses of the Cathars, Queribus, Peyrepertus, Lastours etc. are well worth a visit.
There are many "fetes" throughout the year and the tourist information in Prades are very helpful in letting you know what is happening.
During the winter the Pyrenees are a paradise for skiing, major ski stations are less than an hours drive. A must on the way back from skiing or any visit to the mountains is a stop at St Thomas les Bains, outdoor thermal baths where you can wallow in the soothing waters while enjoying the beautiful views (snowy views in winter).
In Clara the snowline falls to a few hundred feet of the village and you can enjoy leisurely walks in the crisp fresh mountain air. You can come home to a mulled wine next to the cosy log fire.
Culture lovers can look forward to the International Music festival held in Prades each summer (Pablo Casals). The area is famous for the artists that made this area their home due to the wonderful light (Matisse, Durand and Picasso to name but a few). Some of their work is exhibited in various museums in the department.
Days out further afield, Spain is less than an hour from Clara and a visit to Barcelona is a long day but well worth the effort. Or alternatively the flower festival in Girona or the Dali Museum in Figueres.
The Mediterranean sea and many beautiful villages, resorts and hidden bays with miles and mile of sandy beaches, turning more rocky and interesting to the snorkelers as you go further south. Where there is a marine reserve.

Clara is a quiet village less than 10 minutes drive from the bustling market town of Prades. You will definitely need your own transport
