Southern Tuscany is old cultivated land since the Etruscans, the beautiful landscapes can be found on many renaissance paintings and yet this inspiring area is not overcrowded, so you will find peace, relaxation and self-contemplation here. The special thing about this area is the unique mixture of unspoilt nature and an incredibly rich culture that has been around for over 2 millennia.
Seggiano is a dreamy little village situated on top of a hill, not touristic at all, but authentic. Daniel Spoerri has created a wonderful art and nature park with his own works of art and his important artist colleagues, which is expanding every year. Castel del Piano is a small town, also not overcrowded, there you will find everything you need for living.
In the neighborhood of our property you will find olives, cherries, wine and chestnut woods, surrounded by meadows and small creeks in a somewhat wild hilly landscape. Scattered between them - in the middle of the countryside - are the restored farms and small natural stone cottages. Interesting and creative people from all over the world have found their second home here, preserve the land and seek a peaceful life.
The possibilities for activities are endless: hiking, cycling and motorbike tours directly from the house, swimming in the torrent (15 min. walk), getting to know each other or helping with our olive harvest. Shopping and a coffee on the piazza in Castel del Piano or Seggiano. Nearby: Etruscan, Roman, medieval, Renaissance, contemporary art in the Daniel Spoerri Art Park in Seggiano. Good food in innumerable small restaurants, from simple, tasty country cooking to top restaurants. In 30 min. to one hour you can reach many small, picturesque, famous medieval towns, beautiful varied landscapes, wineries with the best wines of Italy, UNESCO culture and UNESCO landscape, hot springs, beaches on the sea, Siena. To the ferry ports to the islands of Elba and Giglio you need one and a half hours, to Florence, Pisa, Assisi about 2 hours, to Rome 2½ hours. One stay will not be enough to discover the diversity of this area. Something very special is that sometimes courses on meditation and self-compassion take place in the Eco Lodge. Are you interested? You can easily reach us by car. From Seggiano (7 km) or Castel del Piano (4 km) a small agricultural road leads to Podere Montecatini, drive carefully. If you are coming for the first time and you are a little uncertain, we will meet you in Castel del Piano or Seggiano and show you the way to the house. By train you can easily reach Florence. Then you have to continue by bus or regional train, everything is slower, you can discover again what it means to travel. We will pick you up at the busstop in Castel del Piano or Seggiano. Airports are located in Florence, Pisa, Perugia, Rome, 2 hours by car. It makes sense to take a rental car, then it is easiest to get to Seggiano or Castel del Piano for shopping or to explore the various areas and sightseeings. There are no rental cars available in Seggiano or Castel del Piano, so please book a car at the airport or railway station.
