Light filled cottage overlooking the sea, a stone's throw from Hayling's blue flag beach, mini railway and a beach café, and a 15 minute drive (or ferry ride!) from Portsmouth . The décor is chic yet cosy, and the accommodation has a surprisingly spacious feel for its footprint. There are 2 small sheltered back gardens with seating separated by an old washhouse/WC/kitchenette. Perfect for preparing an alfresco lunch, BBQ or afternoon tea in the garden! There is also an outdoor shower. Historic cottage retaining many original features that was built by the admiralty in the 1860s following a shipwreck off the island to house the 1st local coastguards. Immediately outside the house is a pretty lawn and garden area with a bench that is tended by the local residents and the outdoor gym, mini railway, café and beach and are a few minutes walk away. There is also a skate park a short skate/cycle/train ride away.

We had a super short stay in Zoe’s lovely well equipped cottage. We arrived a bit early without giving notice - our fault not Zoe’s - and she was really pleasant and flexible nonetheless. The cottage is very well appointed and exactly as described. Zoe was great at communicating both before and during our stay. Great information about the local area, directions and things to know about the cottage. There were lovely touches such as fresh flowers in 2 rooms, a supply of logs for the wood burner, lovely quality bedding and basic provisions. Thank you Zoe for a lovely experience.

Beautiful cottage with a wonderful view of the sea from the main bedroom. The only minor niggle is the table tennis table is small and cramped. It didn’t worry us as we only intended to use it if it rained and we had weather. All in all, a lovely house.

We've just had a lovely long weekend stay and would thoroughly recommend the cottage. We're a family if five and the cottage worked well for us. Our three children (4, 7 and 9 yrs) shared the second bedroom. Zoë proactively got in touch to make sure we were clear it would be a cosy fit once the third bed is added to the twin room. We knew this from the clear property description and photos and it wasn't a problem for our three. The cottage is beautifully decorated and very well equipped. The dartboard and table tennis in the second outhouse building were a fun bonus. The location was great for us. It was super to leave the car parked outside the cottage and while away time on foot. We spent time on the beach, went on the miniature railway and to the funfair. We only used the car on two evenings to drive to our pub dinner bookings. We'd recommend the Billy line for running (and would have cycled on it had we brought the children's bikes). We'd definitely recommend a stay here.

We really enjoyed our stay in Hayling Island, the house was amazing and being so close to the beach was a must. We will be back Zoe was an amazing host - highly recommended!

The house was wonderful and larger than it appeared in the photos. Zoe was friendly and on hand to say hello when we arrived, as well as being flexible on arrival times with our little one in tow. Lovely views and everything in waking distance, with a fun train for the younglings and mix of pebble and sandy beaches. It's clear that Zoe takes pride in the property and we very much enjoyed our time there.

At the mouth of Chichester Harbour Hayling island is home to a golf club, an internationally renowned sailing club, the annual kite surfing festival, a blue flag beach, golf and its own mini railway. There is loads to do on the island including picturesque walks, cycling, crabbing, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, kite surfing and windsurfing. At Sandy Point the beach is white sand and you can see over the water to West Wittering, Chichester Harbour and beyond. At the other end of the island is West Beach where there is a huge stretch of sand when the tide is out, shallow water and sandy lagoons that are great for kids, with views across to Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. Other attractions are the Hayling Billy trail, the donkey sanctuary, and the beach front funfair. Off the island, nearby Bosham is a lovely village on Chichester Harbour with one of the oldest (and most picturesque) churches in England, that features in the Bayeux tapestry. Also, there is a lovely walk from Bosham to Itchenor and then on to West Wittering and around East Head that is thoroughly recommended. Once you have walked around the harbour from Bosham you get the ferry over to Itchenor and from there you can either stop for lunch at Itchenor or walk on to West Wittering and East Head. In Portsmouth you can go shopping at Gunwharf Quays, visit HMS Victory and HMS Warrior or the Spinnaker Tower. You can also get a ferry from Hayling to Portsmouth and take a bus or cycle into the centre of town.

Hayling Island is less than an hour and 1/2 from West London, straight down the A3. Alternatively, take the train to Havant and then hop on the bus which stops opposite the cottage.
