Lesvos, the Greek Island of Ouzo, is the third largest Island of Greece and is situated in the northeast side of the Aegean Sea. Being so close to Turkey it has experienced an amalgamation of Greek and Middle Eastern architecture and cuisine. Mytilene, Lesvos’ capital, it is only 78km away from Mesotopos.
Mesotopos is located at the south part of West Lesvos and is built on the slopes bare volcanic hills that had been created of large volcanic crater in the geological past. It is a traditional village with narrow streets and houses with tiled roofs. Mesotopos is a village of farmers and fishermen and it is a holiday destination particularly suitable for ecotourism and argotourism. Indeed, it is ideal for anyone wishing to spend a tranquil holiday.
Tavari, Chrousos and Podaras beaches are highly worth visiting. Also, just a few kilometers from Mesotopos is the popular beach of Eressos.
Tavari, the port of Mesotopos, is located 3km south of the village. It is a picturesque and an idyllic seaside location with sandy beach and a small port that hosts the fishing boats in the area. Also, it has a number of taverns, souvlaki and cafes on the beach to which it owes its popularity. The beach has fine sand and crystal clear waters and there is a lots going on during the summer months.
Starting from Tavari and moving west, a dirt road leads to the Chrousos beach. This is a wide sandy beach, the most beautiful beach of Lesvos, with clear water and sheltered from northerly winds. Graphic taverns are hidden in the wooded area, offering delicious snacks for the summer visitors who want to escape the crowded beaches. Do not forget to visit it!
East of Tavari, located 1,5km away, is the Podaras beach. It has an impressive landscape with volcanic rocks surrounding the fertile valley formed by the stream of Podaras. It has a long and wide beach and is an ideal destination for swimming. Its water is clear and especially deep.

There is public transport but Lesvos is large & interesting island and it is advisable to use a private or rented car.
