Very large and beautiful house, with so much patio space and serene surroundings. Due to weather, we were sad not to use the pool. We would have liked to see that the space do a deeper clean once a while due to the large size of the house. Check in was easy, I just had to call host to get the key code.

I wish there was an option to rate 4.5. This was a perfect place to stay for our group as guests of a wedding at a local winery. Beds were comfortable and we appreciated using the kitchen and living room as gathering/socializing areas. We thoroughly enjoyed using the pool and had a great BBQ dinner and enjoyed the outdoor dining space. There were a couple minor things that dropped the score from perfect. While we were super grateful to receive an early check in, it took many emails and a call to the primary service to make it happen. Then when we showed up an hour and a half after our designated checkin time the cleaning service was still there. The shower heads in the bathroom were also coated with rust and the shower water strongly smelled of sulfur. While we did enjoy the pool and all the lounge chairs, there was a dilapidated pool house that while added interesting character, was unsightly and would have been dangerous if we had kids with us. Overall we had a great experience and would certainly come back to this house if we were in the area.

Home is a bit dated. Pictures are not accurate to some parts of the home especially the pool. Pool area needs updating Communication was difficult to reach someone with questions. Very remote location. Kitchen supplies need to be organized and some discarded due to expiration dates. Two words…wine opener! Definitely need one that works maybe two or three especially since the house is in wine country. Had difficulty when trying to check out earlier with owner.

This house is a grand old dame of a home that has the potential for incredible charm and feels like walking into a beloved aunt’s home that has kind of been forgotten in time. We were a family of 7 adults and thoroughly enjoyed Glen Ellen and Sonoma. Cons are really about cosmetic things but worth mentioning seeing as this is Sonoma Valley pricing: 1. It is very difficult to find the house. No instructions were provided and the house number is not visible from the driveways. This is essential information to avoid arriving at the house frustrated. 2. The pool area is very dated and in need of upgrading such as painting railings that are covered in rust, replacing worn out cushions, but if nothing else is done, making sure that the pool area furniture is neatly organized like the photo. It was disorderly and uninviting when we arrived. 3. In the twin bedroom: dresser drawers handles need repair. Check out the beds, the slept-in twin bed by the door was less than comfortable. 4. Bathroom sinks and shower heads are loose, leaks and in need of repair. 5. Ants and insects are a part of the great outdoors and they love to come indoors. Highly recommend having lots of food storage options such as containers and plastic bags to make sure that guests are encouraged to not leave food out on the counters. 6. We cooked every day. Replace all the rusty cooking appliances such as the potato masher, can opener, wisk, serving utensils, reliable wine opener, etc., because we had to run to the store to get items in the midst of cooking. Left the can opener and potato masher behind for the guests. Lots of knives, but they desperately need sharpening. 7. The air conditioning can only be felt in the living room, although the unit looks new and strong. Since we only had one hot night this was okay with opening the windows to get the cool evening breeze. 8. Missing fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Pros: 1. The pool was covered, water clean and pleasantly warm on hot days. Plenty of pool side furniture. Beautiful views of the trees from the water, very relaxing. 2. The house is surrounded by greenery, and we saw quail, woodpeckers, hawks etc. 3. Housekeeper still in the house when we arrived, but she did a nice job of cleaning everything. 4. All the queen/king beds in the three rooms were very comfortable. 5. A handsome, sturdy new leather couch in the living room was a good place to sit and watch basketball. 6. Toilets flushed well and there was always plenty of hot water with plenty of well-used towels for all the family. 7. Washer and dryer worked well as we elected to wash and dry our towels after using them in the pool. 8. Three lovely sets of dishes including serving dishes that allow for a beautiful table setting. 9. Kitchen has nice appliances and is well stocked with basic necessities like coffee maker, blender, pots and pans. Lots of clean kitchen towels. 10. There are two BBQs, but we did not use them. 11. House is close to a lovely local market with a great selection of foods and wines and a nice bakery across the street in the quaint town center of Glen Ellen. Several restaurants just in case you don’t want to cook. 12. House is central to areas of Napa, Sonoma as well as Santa Rosa, Russian River. Everything felt about 25-40 minutes away in all directions. 13. Jack London Regional Park, a few minutes drive away, is a joy and a great place for hiking, walking and running opens at 9AM. 14. The house is surrounded by beautiful old trees and is in a private, quiet area. 15. Good Wifi especially for those having to check in at work. This is a house that quickly becomes a home in Sonoma. Do not expect modern or new, but rather be prepared for a homey, well-used feeling of this Glen Ellen Wine Country house in a beautiful location with easy access to wine country and a family friendly pool at the end of serious wine tasting!
