We are inviting you to share our 17th century house in the heart of the ancient medina in magnificent Fes. Relax on the terrace, enjoy stunning views, before walking out the door to immerse yourself in scenes that remain little changed in centuries ABOUT THE HOUSE: Our house is on 4 levels. - Ground floor has a patio with sofa and two arm chairs as well as a coffee table. There is also a fully functional kitchen with cooking hob, fridge/freezer, oven, spice rack etc. We do not have microwave. There is also a salon which is a storage room and there is a toilet on this floor as well. - downstairs bathroom with his/her sinks, spacious shower and the washing machine area. - first floor has a large bedroom with a king size bed (160x200cm ) with a wardrobe and bedside cabinets. The bedroom has a window with shutters overlooking the patio. There is also another smaller room with a desk and chair as well as comfortable corner sofa which can be turned into double bed. This room has external windows providing good light. - top floor is our south facing terrace with a lot of plants, olive tree, grapevine and papyrus plants, a zelij table and 4 chairs, part of the terrace has shade where you can attach a hammock. There is a washing line. The plants need to be watered daily in summer. There are 38 stairs from bottom of the house right to the top WIFI INTERNET There is a fast (for Moroccan standards - 10mb/s in real terms) and reliable wifi internet throughout the house. However thick 17th century walls do restrict the signal in some areas. Fast and cheap 4G internet (30-40mbs) can be easily accessed through your mobile phone as a backup. There are almost 9000 streets and narrow alleys EXPERIENCE TRADITION AND MODERNITY Our XVII century dar (DAR means house in Arabic, while RIAD means garden or house with interior garden) has been lovingly restored using traditional Moroccan materials, while retaining a modern edge. The living areas are adorned with a mix of old and new furniture, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The fully equipped kitchen is ready to host culinary gatherings, allowing you to whip up delicious meals using fresh ingredients from many local markets. ACCOMMODATION FOR COUPLES Our dar sleeps up to four guests, but we highly recommend it for couples seeking a cozy and intimate stay. The two bedrooms, are designed to offer a tranquil retreat for two or three people. The master bedroom features a king-size bed, a traditional cedar ceiling, decorative wall lamps, and zelij (Moroccan hand-made mosaic) on the floor. The second bedroom has a very comfortable corner sofa which turns into double bed, however we use is as an office or a second living room. ESCAPE TO OUR ROOFTOP OASIS After a day of exploring the medina's labyrinthine alleyways and bustling souks, ascend to our rooftop terrace for a moment of tranquility. Relax in the sun (or shade) and enjoy panoramic views of the medina with the new town in the distance, taking in the mesmerising sights and sounds of Fes from a unique vantage point. LOCATED IN THE HEART OF MEDINA Our dar is situated in the heart of the old medina, just a short walk from all the major attractions, including the tanneries, the Souk el-Attarine, and the Boujeloud Gate. We are literally in the middle of it all. Public transport and taxis are also readily available, outside medina walls. However, please note that some of the streets in the medina may be uneven or have cobblestones, which may pose some challenges for those with limited mobility. EXPLORE THE LABYRINTH THE MEDINA With its intricate network of 9,000 streets and narrow alleyways, Fes's medina is a captivating labyrinth. Getting lost in this maze is part of the adventure, allowing you to serendipitously discover hidden treasures and local gems. However, if you're looking for a bit of guidance, you can easily navigate with offline maps like HereWeGo, which have detailed coverage of the medina's streets. Both apps can be downloaded and used without an internet connection, ensuring you can explore the medina without relying on connectivity. And if you need to access online information, cheap data SIM cards are widely available for around $5, offering 5GB of data. PLEASE BE AWARE While this property has many wonderful features, it may not be suitable for all families, especially those with young children or significant mobility limitations. The bedrooms are not en suite. One toilet is on the courtyard level, while bathroom is two floors down from the bedrooms. The air-conditioning is only in the bedroom so you can have a comfortable sleep. There are plenty of fans around the house for day time use.
