Beachgate Bungalows feature two charming villas in a single private compound, located around the corner from Fort Kochi Beach and a few minutes walk from St Francis Church and the Chinese fishing nets, two most important features synonymous with Fort Kochi. Each villa features three spacious and comfortable bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, three open terraces, a fully equipped modern kitchen, a dining room, a family room with TV and free WiFi, a private pool, alfresco dining with a barbeque and a beautiful tropical garden. Each villa has its own private swimming pool with walk out access from the dining room and is surrounded by a beautiful garden and trees which are as old as the bungalows themselves. These twin bungalows were designed in the fifties by the old English architectural firm of Pryne, Abbot and Davis for the erstwhile Brooke Bond & Co, an old tea plantation company who wanted their executives to continue to experience the feel of the plantations while they were on mainland. Beachgate bungalows display top architectural quality with Art Deco elements merged with modern accents. Local additions add to its warmth. This is a truly private experience where the only neighbors on your property are several delightful families of local tropical birds that live in your private garden. The singular pleasure of enjoying an early morning cup of steaming Nilgiri highgrown tea on your very own private balcony is truly a meditative experience. It only gets better when the birds awaken and rouse each other with their morning orchestra of lilting morning melodies. As dawn turns to day, guests can start their day with a hearty breakfast of their choice and set off to explore the historic Fort Cochin neighborhood on bicycles, which are available on request. Fort Cochin is the oldest European settlement in India. Fort Cochin’s amalgam of colonial architecture provides a unique window into India’s colonial past where various colonial powers struggled to take control of India’s spice trade that was centered in Fort Cochin. St. Francis Church is the first European Church that was built in India. The History of this Church reflects the colonial struggle of European powers in India from the 15th to 20th centuries, starting with the Portuguese, then the Dutch and finally the English. A walk through Fort Kochi’s charming tree-lined lanes is akin to experiencing a living colonial museum, with art galleries, community halls and schools, cafes, boutique hotels and restaurants all housed in painstakingly restored heritage colonial properties. As day turns to dusk, a visit to the local beach is a must (only 200 mtrs away from the bungalows), to enjoy a spectacular tropical sunset as the sun turns into a giant fiery orange orb as it sinks into the Arabian Sea. Evenings in Fort Kochi are a truly romantic experience with numerous fine dining establishments, typically housed in beautiful boutique hotels that dot the neighborhood, within walking distance. Kerala is known for its delicious sea-food cuisine and most Fort Kochi restaurants offer a catch of the day that can be cooked to your preferences, along with local wine and beer. Of course, should you wish to dine in, you have the option of having a chef on call, who will make you a meal of your choice or you can choose to cook yourself.
Beautiful 1950’s villa with a team of house staff led by Mr Cherian, who took care of everything including delivering amazing food from the sister hotel Eighth Bastion. Sumptuous breakfasts were provided at the hotel, or we could make our own with the provisions supplied (even our fussy 6 year old enjoyed the cornflakes and banana cake). Had a wonderful staycation, with daily music lessons at the Kerala Kathakali centre.
Amazing stay in this beautiful house. An oasis right in the middle of Fort Kochi, lovely pool and was so good to have the free bikes to use to cycle around the city. Staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to look after our every need. Highly recommend this wonderful property.
Beautiful setting to a truly simple yet classy house. The check-in process, regular communications, as well as personal attention to our needs was outstanding. The property has a great location near the heart of Fort Kochi and we were able to get around very easily. The food options were healthy and delicious. We were traveling with two kids: a toddler and an infant. The team made sure we had a stress-free and relaxing vacation at the property. Definitely consider this house for your next family vacation. You won’t be disappointed.
