Pollino National Park
Pollino National Park is the biggest natural park in Italy, spreading over 200000 hectars in areas of absolute wilderness and delightful landscapes in southern Italy. The Park is worldwide known for the “Loricato Pine”, a Mediterranean Pine which today grows only in this land. If you are looking for a refreshing walk on quiet paths Pollino is the ideal destination.
Rossano – Byzantine Pearl
Rossano is a town full of history and culture, that was really famous during the Byzantine Empire. Between 540-1059 AD, Rossano was the most important place in Calabria and domicile of the Byzantine “Strategos”.
In the old city center several monuments show the beauty of Byzantine architecture and can be visited, ie: The Cathedral of Achiropita, with the well-known Achiropita painting, Saint Mark and Panaghia, Saint Nilo’s Church. Furthermore at the Diocesan Museum it is visible the famous Codex Purpureux Rossanens, which is an illuminated Greek evangeliary written on a purple parchment.
Archaeological site of Sybaris
The archaeological site of Sybaris is placed shortly after the mouth of the Crati river. This part of the calabrian territory saw the raising, the development and the decline of the great polis of Sybaris; after the Greek town's destruction, the Hellenist centre of Thurri first and then the Roman Copia raised.
The ruins of the three cities are today overlapped. Such exceptional stratification, let Sybaris become one of the widest and important archeological sites in the Mediterranean.
Tartufo Ice Cream
Tartufo is an Italian handmade ice-cream dessert originating from Pizzo Calabro. It is usually made from hazelnut ice cream, dark chocolate and cocoa powder. It is prepared as a spherical dessert. Today several different flavours are available but remember that the original is made from hazelnut!
