Great place, handy for the beach and as a base to explore the area. Daniel was great with communications and would recommend his place to anyone
Sights:
Duquesa Port - Attractive marina popular with the British. Plenty of restaurants. 10 mins by car.
Marbella Old Town - Charming, traditional Spanish old town with meandering narrow street and tapas bars. Recommended.
Puerto Banus - The complete opposite of the above. Brash, buzzing and bonkers after midnight. It’s a millionaire’s playground with beach clubs, super-yachts, super-cars, bars, clubs and designer boutiques.
Tarifa Beach and Old Town - The best beach on the coast and a cute Spanish old town with boutique shops and restaurants, enclosed by medieval walls. Recommended.
Gibraltar - A British high street in the sun and a tax free haven. Cheap booze, cigarettes and petrol. Avoid rush hour times if attempting to take the car across the border and don't forget your passport.
Ronda - Attractive Spanish town in the hills behind Marbella. One hour drive on twisty roads but the town and the view is worth the effort. Recommended.
Casares - Attractive white washed town in the hills behind the villa. Pleasant drive and a local spanish vibe with authentic restaurants and tapas bars. The included Sat Nav will guide you to the best parking.
The walk through the town to the castle is steep but great views at the end. Recommended.
Seville - Stunning city with great food. 2 hours each way but an overnight stay makes it viable. My favourite. GO!
Granada - Needs no introduction. Highly recommended. 2.5 hours each way.
Morocco - Spices and snake charmers. Like an Indiana Jones movie. 35 mins on the ferry from Algeciras or Tarifa. Simply magical.
Local restaurants:
La Sal Chiringuito - just at the bottom of the hill and a local gem plus you can stumble home from this one (trust me!) Loved by the tourists and Spanish alike. Great seafood (and service) but can get very busy at lunchtimes so book ahead. Recommended.
Bahia Beach Bar - take the path from La Sal over the cliff past the castle. This is a contemporary style beach bar owned by the 5 star Finca Cortesin Beach Club behind. Good food but more expensive. It’s a quieter beach and there are sun loungers.
The Forge - On the road up to Casares. Rustic ambiance and unique. Rated #1 on Trip Advisor local restaurants. Worth a go.
Arroyo Hondo - Very good. Rated #2 on Trip Advisor. Go.
Venta Garcia - Another winner.
Parapiros - Best local pizza and decent homemade pasta. Duquesa Port.
Gibraltar - 30 mins by car
Malaga - 1 hr by car (toll roads @ 10 euro each way)
I recommend hiring a car however there is a taxi rank less that 10 minutes walk away.
From Gibraltar Airport - €55
From Malaga Airport - €95
Bus to the villa from Malaga Airport is possible but requires one change at Marbella.
The Airport Bus goes direct to Marbella Bus Station via the fast Toll Road. The journey time is 45 minutes and it costs €8,30 single fare.
Then Marbella to Bahia De Casares is on the local Portillo bus and runs every hour.
