The family that runs Hostal Machalilla are kind and helpful, they take good care of their place and their guests. I had to change my dates last minute due to illness, and I arrived early for check in due to available transit options, and they were consistently responsive and flexible with me. The room was clean and comfortable. There is a large deck with ample outdoor seating space with shade and hammocks, tables and chairs. The shared kitchen is functional. The internal patio is beautiful with well-tended plants, flowering trees and birds. Despite being located in the heart of Puerto Lopez, one block from the malecón (beach), the place feels peaceful and private. There are an abundance of restaurants within walking distance, as well as a fully stocked supermarket and an economical place to have laundry done. I stayed a full week, and I felt well taken care of, and like the hostal offered excellent value for the price.
