Moggs beach house is a recently renovated beach house with plenty of character, space and fabulous views to the beach at Moggs Creek. It is a perfect location to relax, catch-up with friends & family and enjoy the best nature has to offer on the nearby beaches and in the bush of the National Park. Once at the Moggs beach house, the beach, lookout and forest tracks of the National Park are all within easy walking distance and readily accessible. You can park the car and begin to relax! The house accommodates up to 9 people comfortably in 4 bedrooms. It has 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen/dining area, two roomy living/entertainment areas and a large deck with BBQ. Please note: top and bottom sheets, pillowcases and towels are not provided and you should bring your own. If this will cause you difficulty please contact me to arrange a linen service for an additional fee. It is a 3-minute walk to the beautiful beach at Moggs Creek, which stretches for 6km from Fairhaven to Eastern View and is great year-round for surfing, fishing and walking. Dolphins sometimes swim close to the shore and in winter, whales can be seen from the deck as they migrate along the coast. The neighbouring Great Otway National Park is great for bushwalking and mountain bike riding. There is abundant wildlife in the area with kangaroos, king parrots, cockatoos, kookaburras and other native birds visiting often. It is a ten-minute walk up to the Look-Out up along the Moggs Creek Track. The lookout has 180-degree views from the Airey's Lighthouse to Lorne and is well worth the effort. Moggs Creek is a much quieter coastal haven than the neighbouring towns of Lorne, Aireys Inlet and Anglesea. It retains the relaxed feeling of the west coast from 30 years ago, but is just a 15 minute drive to Lorne or Anglesea if you need to stock up on anything. The Fairhaven Surf Life Saving clubhouse is a 5-minute drive down the Great Ocean Rd and offers evening meals over summer and views over the ocean. Other activities and places of interest in the local area include: galleries, cafes, the Split Point lighthouse at Aireys Inlet, horse riding and golf to name a few. Further afield and about a 2-hour drive are the 12 Apostles and Otway Fly Treetop Adventures which are well worth a visit. BEACH HOUSE FACILITIES All facilities at the beach house are available for guests to use. The kitchen has a Miele oven & speed oven, electric induction cooktop, microwave, fridge (plus second fridge in the laundry), kettle, toaster and Miele dishwasher. Fill the water filter jugs located on the kitchen bench or in the fridge with water from the tap. We are on tank water so it is better to use water filtered by the jugs. Please use water wisely. There is a Nespresso machine in the kitchen. If you are keen coffee drinkers then please bring your own supply of pods. In the pantry, you will find a range of basic condiments. There is a Weber Q gas BBQ on the front deck you are welcome to use. Please note that when cooking with the Weber it is best to warm the BBQ up for 5-10 minutes with the lid down. Also, keep the lid down while cooking. This will cook the meat much more quickly. Please turn the gas off at the gas bottle when finished cooking. VENTILATION There are ceiling fans in the meals area, main living area and bedrooms with QS beds. Every room has new double glazed windows or doors with flywire screens for letting in fresh air. To open a window push the handle from the vertical position up 90 degrees to the horizontal position to unlock and open the window. HEATING & COOLING There are new new split system heating and air conditioning units in the main meals area and the lounge area of the beach house. These are operated by remote control units you will find located on the walls in each area. To turn a unit on, point the remote at the unit and press the orange ON/OFF button. To turn the unit off do the same. Please turn the units off each night before you go to bed. To change the temperature press the + or - TEMP button. To set to cooling or heating, slide down the plastic cover and you will see the MODE button in the top left. Pressing this button will change the MODE which is shown in the top left of the display. Cooling is the second round symbol from the left on the display. Heating is the fourth round symbol from the left on the display. Please note that there will be a delay before the heating starts to work as the pipes need to heat up first. An instruction manual for the split system is located in the back page of the red information folder left on the kitchen table for your arrival. Please don't use the gas heater in the lounge area. There are portable electric heaters in the bedrooms. WIFI If you wish to use the WiFi the details are:- WiFi Name TelstraE067E3 WiFi Password etjbg2mapb TV/Fetch Use the Fetch remote to operate the TV. Turn the Fetch on by pressing the ON/OFF button on the top right of the remote. Blue lights will then show on the Fetch unit on the table. Turn the TV on by pressing the 123... button on the top left of the Fetch remote and then press the ON/OFF button on the top right of the remote. SONAS There are SONAS WiFi speakers in the kitchen and lounge that you are welcome to use to play music on from your mobile device. In the entertainment area there is a leather modular sofa, flat screen TV and DVD player. In the lounge area there are two large leather sofas with a large coffee table. The deck has a large Jarrah outdoor setting that seats 8 people comfortably. Guests are welcome to take the wicker tub chairs from inside out onto the deck providing they bring them back inside at night. There are additional chairs under a grey cover if needed. The BBQ is is a Weber family Q which is perfect for cooking for a family or group. There are 4 bedrooms (2 with Queen size beds which open onto outside verandahs, 1 with a double bunk and 1 with 2 double bunks). The main bedroom has its own ensuite and there is a separate bathroom and WC for the other bedrooms. There is a high chair available for families with babies. OUTDOOR SHOWER In the area behind the house near the water tanks is an outdoor shower with hot and cold water. It is easier to rinse off here when coming back from the beach. HOT WATER The hot water system heats overnight. If you happen to run out during the day, there is a booster button in the main switchboard on the verandah, which if pressed for 5 seconds will provide hot water in 20-30 minutes. TO GET TO MOGGS CREEK BEACH The quickest way to walk down to the beach from the house is straight down to the end of Noel Rd where you will see a track off to the left that crosses the Great Ocean Rd and leads to the beach. (3 minutes) To get to Noel Rd go back down the driveway, turn right onto Boyd Avenue and then right again onto Noel Road. Do not use the stone steps to the right of the front deck on the lawn slope as this leads to the neighbour's front yard which is private property. Please watch out for cars when crossing the Great Ocean Rd - they travel very fast. Then walk left along the 6km stretch of beach towards Moggs Creek river mouth and Fairhaven. Or walk right towards Eastern View, “Spot” surf spot, Great Ocean Road Archway and Spout Creek. WALK TO THE LOOKOUT AND NATIONAL PARK From the driveway of the house go left up along Boyd Rd, straight up Moggs Creek Track for 700m and turn left to the lookout for great views from Lorne to the Aireys Lighthouse. Go left up along Boyd Rd, up Moggs Creek Track for 600m and turn right at the lookout track and follow the track for 3km to the Moggs Creek picnic ground. Walk or get a lift from the Moggs Creek picnic ground back to the house. LOCAL BIRDS Kookaburras, King Parrots, Rosella’s and Cockatoo’s often come to the property in the mornings and evenings looking for food. Be careful not to feed the Cockatoo’s by hand as they have large sharp beaks, ouch! FISHING Good surf and rock fishing on the incoming tide along the coast. SURFING Good waves often straight out the front at Moggs Creek. •“Spot” surf spot is 300m to the right from Moggs Creek beach. You can walk or drive there. •Lorne is a 15 minute drive for safe and protected smaller surf. •World famous Bell’s Beach and Torquay are a 20-minute drive. CYCLING Excellent Mountain riding on tracks between Aireys Inlet and Anglesea. There is a competition-grade mountain bike track located in hills of the Eumeralla Scout camp, behind Anglesea. Call in to the Anglesea bike shop for directions. Very good road riding along The Great Ocean Road and along the roads thru the Otways. Caution is required as The Great Ocean Road gets busy with traffic during the warmer months. PLACES TO VISIT Aireys Inlet •Visit the Split Point Lighthouse and cafe (about 6 minutes drive). Book tours at (website hidden). •Walk out to Eagle Rock at low tide from the car park near the Lighthouse. •Blazing Saddles at Fairhaven is great for horse rides for kids and family. •General Store (for milk, newspapers etc), Bakery and Post Office (top shops). Lorne •Pier for great views of Loutit Bay and fishing. •Erskine Falls (wear boots/sandals with soles as may be slippery). •Great walking tracks in and around Lorne thru the bush and along the coast. •Skate Park on the foreshore. PLACES TO EAT In Aireys Inlet: o Aireys Inlet Hotel for good pub food and atmosphere. o Truffles café located in the “top” shops for coffees, snacks and pizza. o Skinny Legs at the “bottom” shops for coffees, snacks and sandwiches. o Fairhaven Surf Life Saving clubhouse is on The Great Ocean Rd and offers evening meals and a bar during the summer months. o Take-away: The Captain of Aireys Wood Fired Pizza and Aireys Fish & Chips at the “bottom” shops. In Lorne: o Kosta’s Greek restaurant – a classic on the coast. o Chopstix Noodle Bar. o Lorne Hotel for very good pub meals. In Anglesea: oAnglesea Pizza. oAnglesea Fish & Chips. oAnglesea Golf Club for a good meal overlooking the golf course. oNordenfine Icecream. BYO LINEN Pillows, doonas, tee towels and bath mats are supplied, but guests need to bring their own linen (pillow cases and top and bottom sheets) and towels. Alternatively a linen service can be arranged for an additional fee by contacting me. While in the house… •The power and hot water should already be on. The switchboard is located in the Left-Hand corner on the rear verandah should you need to check. •Light switches special note. There are 2 switches on the wall near the back door – one switch is for the driveway spotlight (keep this in the middle or up position) and the other is for the back verandah. •Insect repellent. In the evening use insect repellent (some located in the pantry or BYO) as mozzies can be annoying. BINS Bins are in the driveway next to the shed. The large bin with the red lid is for non-recyclable waste (landfill). The large bin with the yellow lid is for recycling paper and plastic recycling, the bin with the purple lid is for glass recycling and the large bin with the light green lid is for green waste and food recycling. Note: Rubbish Collection day is early Monday morning, so please put the rubbish and recycling out on Sunday night (See bin schedule on Fridge). Place bins on opposite side of road for collection.
