Since it was winter, Tiny let me know in advance that it was too cold to stay in Base Camp Lodge. Instead, she gave us the option of staying at her sister's B and B, The Pink House, in Serowe. Her sister was delightful and the en suite rooms were very clean. We were not there very long, though, so weren't able to try the breakfast.
The bed and breakfast in serowe was really nice. The communication with Tiny was also so good. And her sister had welcomed us , she is a very kind person!!!
We only stayed one night at the Base Camp, which is well named, as it would make a very nice base camp to explore central Botswana, Serowe, Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Palapye etc. The location on the outskirts of Serowe is quite convenient, easy to get to shops & the village. Once we connected with our host's friend & got access to the house we were quite happy with the accommodations. When the host completes the construction it’ll be a really great place to stay. Especially if you are looking for a touch of traditional Botswana housing with some added amenities to increase comfort (esp for western travelers). There are two large rondovals each has a traditional thatched roof (which smelled nice). Each has been divided into two completely separate bedrooms, each has their own bathroom. The rooms are cozy, but not cramped. Each has it’s own fridge too. We enjoyed the nicely landscaped grounds & eating on the patio. Unfortunately when we stayed (Aug, 2015) she had not yet completed construction. e.g. electricity provided by solar power, but no batteries yet, so no power after dark. Not enough water pressure & no hot water. The host had warned me about all of that so there were no suprizes. All in all we had an enjoyable stay, wish we’d had time to stay longer.
Wheather its bird spotting, a getaway from the hectic daily life or visiting the amazing Khama animal park for animal viewing. Basecamp is a unique place that offers tranquility at its best.
Car hire available in Serowe, Palapye and Gaborone city/International Airport. Local Taxis are also available with local prices, around 3-4 American dollars.
