The Lunacy is just as the pictures show, a beautiful 42' sailing ship that is well maintained by Captain Steve and his wife Janet. Steve and Janet are an amazing couple that made it feel like sailing with old friends rather than hosts. We found Captain Steve and the Lunacy while searching for sailing charters in the USVI. However, after reading that Steve and the Lunacy were in Grenada for the hurricane season, and on the advice of a few friends, we changed our travel plans and met the Lunacy in St. Vincent. We spent eight nights traveling through the St. Vincent and Grenadian Grenadines, which are stunning. While we were nervous booking during hurricane season, we could not have been happier with our choice. As many of the locals told us, hurricane season is the best time to visit the lower Caribbean Islands as they are way less likely to get hit with big storms vs. the northern islands. We had almost every anchorage to ourselves including the Tobago Cays, which Steve said was unheard of. The Lunacy has a small private room and bathroom for guests in the front part of the cabin. My girlfriend (5'3") and me (6'2") had no problem stretching out together in the bed and found our small section of the boat to be quite comfortable. The skylight in the room is great for looking out at the stars and for providing cool breezes at night. The ship is basic, but has everything you would need while sailing. My girlfriend very much enjoyed the Stand Up Paddleboards for Yoga. Steve and Janet went out of their way to make sure we had anything that we wanted, including provisioning the boat all the foods that we preferred. The meals and snacks throughout the day were fantastic and we loved all the dinner conversation. Steve's spaghetti is second to none! Steve communicated extremely well prior to our departure and answered all of our questions. His overview on his Airbnb post is extremely helpful and tells you everything you need to know before departure. He was incredibly helpful when it came to working through the itinerary, which changed almost daily after we arrived. Steve even allowed us to book an extra evening to accommodate the itinerary we wanted after we arrived (You won't want to leave either). The Grenadines are extremely beautiful and the Tobago Cays were one of the best places we visited during our two month vacation in the Caribbean. As Steve said, you don't arrive as a sailor until you have arrived at the Tobago Cays. Steve knew all the best anchorage spots and made the sailing a great time. Overall, sailing with Steve and Janet was the best week of our two month Caribbean adventure. We would definitely book again and if you are even thinking of chartering a boat, you should definitely reach out to Steve. We can't thank him and Janet enough for the amazing week at sea.
