The Barn at Rigg End is an excellent place to spend a relaxing and restful holiday. It is very well equipped, comfortable, spacious and to add to that, set in fabulous open countryside. As a party of 5 we could find no fault with it at all. It was a pleasure to meet Michael and Shirley, they made our visit even more special. A well thought out property, definitely worth visiting. Many thanks for providing a superb opportunity to enjoy.
Michaels place was immaculate and was very helpful throughout the stay. He even offered veg that was grown by the farm! Very pleased and would recommend anyone to stay here!
The accommodation was fantastic. Private, cosy yet spacious and fully equipped. Finished to a high standard. The setting in the North Yorkshire Moors was lovely and very fitting for a relaxing break away over the holiday. We would highly recommend.
The perfect place for a peaceful getaway. We have just returned home and are looking forward to returning already. Michael was the perfect host and the barn conversion and location were perfect. The photos don’t do it justice. Would highly recommend.

Sutton Bank
Fantastic location for walking, hiking and biking with wonderful views over over the North York Moors, Hood Hill, Gormire Lake and the Vale of Mowbray. "Finest in England" was what vet and author James Herriot described the tremendous view from Sutton Bank escarpment. Go to the visitor centre, hire a bike or wait until its dark and enjoy the stars on a clear night, one of three such Dark Sky Discovery Site in the North York Moors.
Go Ape Adventure Course
The 'Go Ape' adventure course situated in Dalby Forest will certainly liven up your holiday. The course has a nail biting collection of high bridges, zip-wires and Tarzan swings you will need to successfully navigate. For young children there is the junior treetops experience. However, if you prefer to be closer to the ground why not try out the recently introduced forest Segways?
Beck Isle Museum
Explore the agricultural heritage of the local land by visiting the Beck Isle Museum. Attractions include ‘The Victorian Parlour’ and the ‘Cobbler’s Shop’. Don’t forget to buy a memento from the gift shop on the way out.
Pickering Castle
Come and discover the history behind this 13th century Norman castle. Learn who has occupied the castle over the years and visit the exhibition in the chapel. If you enjoy discovering some of Yorkshire's cultural heritage and want to learn more, then head on to Whitby Abbey or Helmsley Castle.
Rievaulx Abbey & Rievaulx Terrace
Enjoy the wonderful views from up at Rievaulx Terrace and look down onto Rievaulx Abbey. It is a half mile long terrace between two temples, the Doric Temple and Ionic Temple and perfect for picnics and view points. Walk down in Helmsley after and enjoy relaxing in one of the many cafe's and bars in the popular market town.
Seaside & Local Beaches
For a traditional day out by the sea, go to the Yorkshire coast. Head off to the popular town of Whitby and Sands End beach is recommended but there are mainy other great options nearby. The sandy beach at Whitby has lots of attractions and facilities as well as some nearby activities for children.
Plenty of parking on site. Car recommended though some great countryside for hiking and also lovely walks to the local pubs and villages. Guest enjoy bringing their bikes too as there is plenty of good off road and countryside to explore on two wheels.
