We had the most wonderful time at Francisco’s incredible house in Pinhao, only a short walk from the town and a number of quintas! The riverside setting is very special and we particularly enjoyed taking the kayaks out on the water. Francisco and Maria welcomed us on arrival and gave us a thorough tour of the extensive facilities. The recommendations Francisco provided ahead of our arrival were very helpful in planning our trip. We enjoyed a fabulous meal using the covered barbecue and picking fresh fruit from the orange and lemon trees. Looking after Francisco’s pet turtle was an unexpected bonus. This house is an absolute gem and we couldn’t recommend it enough.

Francisco and his wife were waiting for us when we showed up, even though we ended up making some stops on the way from Lisbon. Their place is in one of the most beautiful locations one could ask for- orange and lemon trees, grape vines, river, and beautiful grounds. Our kids made lots of orange juice and lemonade and the oranges were honestly the best I’ve had. The interior is open, spacious and we felt right at home. The communication all along the way was so helpful to plan our time there. I feel like we barely scratched the surface on the valley wine scene. I hope we’ll be back! Thanks to you 2 for letting us in your home!

We had the best time at Francisco’s place! It was easily the highlight of our 2 week Portugal vacation! The views are the best in Pinhao and the location was perfect, walkable to the train station and many quintas. We hope to return! Francisco was an excellent communicator and we truly felt right at home!

What a beautiful, peaceful place to spend time in the Douro Valley. We only stayed for two nights, but if I could have added one more day to our trip, it would have been spent here. The living room and dining area are set up very nicely for larger groups or families to visit and spread out. There was one patio that faced the river and was sunny that we enjoyed sitting on and having lunch one day even tho the high was in the upper 50's. The first morning, my husband picked a basket of ripe oranges and made fresh juice for us. Francisco is so communicative and helpful with all information related to the area. I felt like I had my own private travel planner to help me with our trip. As others have mentioned, Francisco has a neighbor/friend, Joaquim, that is a wine sommelier and chef. Our first night there, he did a port wine tasting and a five course meal for my daughter's 31st birthday. It was a wonderful, memorable event that we will never forget.

The host Francisco and his wife are very nice persons. They drove 1.5 hours from Porto to meet us on the property and showed us everthing we needed to know on site. We were given a bottle of fine red wine before they left. The property is magnificent, large, clean and extremely comfortable. It is conveniently located. Everthing we need is in the neighbourhood within 12 minutes walking distance or a few minutes drive from home. These includes grocery stores, eating places, sightseeing boat trip and most of all, Quintas or wineyards where port and wine tastings are available. With a bottle of wine and cheese in hand, I can spend a few hours in the sitting-out areas of the property enjoying the view and the river. A few days before our arrival, Francisco sent us a series of messages recommending restaurants, wine tasting, boat tours and nearby villages to visit. Basically, we followed his recommenations and were pleased to have enjoyed good value for money meals and services.
