Great experience in the Sahara desert

I was the only guest on my camel trip. I was impressed that I was still treated nicely. Tajine dinner in the desert camp was good -- tons of food. Both Ali and the camel guide were accommodating to my early bus departure. We left camp at 5:40 AM and rode by moonlight back to Merzouga -- this was probably actually my favourite part because the desert was silent and peaceful :)

I booked three nights for the desert experience of sleeping in a tent, however it was too cold, and as suggested by Ali, I only stayed for one night in the tent, and the other ones I went back to his hotel. It was enough and still amazing though. The camel (dromedary) ride there gets you in the desert "frequency" with the views, the movement of the animals and the sounds. When you arrive there, you are greated by another one of the hosts who are very well spirited and love to speak many languages. The infrastructure of the camp is quite surprising, with shower, toilets, dinning "hall" (tent) and everything smelled so nice and was sparkling clean. The are quite a few rooms, which made it interesting for me to share this experience with people from all over the world. We were greated with delicious berber whiskey (tea) and after watching the sunset from the top of a dune, we ate a delicious dinner, a very hot tagine for the cold desert night. After dinner, we gathered around the fire to warm up and the music started. I brought my ukulele and the hosts had their drums. It is definitely freezing at night in the desert, so be prepared, the room had a lot of covers, but I woke up at 06:30 feeling very cold and confident that one night in January was enough for me. I did not bring a sleeping bag or anything like that, maybe if you have some gear, you can face it easily. I should say that spending the day in the desert, is well worth the cold at night. And maybe in the summer, it is reversed, too hot during the day and pleasant at night.

We originally saw desert camping trips for £200 per person on TripAdvisor. So we were shocked when we found Ali's desert tour and night stay for only £100 for four people! We thought we might miss out on quality but we definitely did not.
