奥本(Auburn) · 整套民居 · 3室5床2.0卫 · 可住8人 · Unique artist's sun filled farmhouse meets loft
Sunny and cozy contemporary artist designed, renovated and curated space with a large touch of quirk. This old farmhouse is off the beaten path and a perfect place to explore all that the real Maine has to offer. Set on an acre of land outside of town, there is plenty of open out door space, fire pit and a deck with picnic table and BBQ grill. Walking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and snow mobile trails. Close to lakes, parks and trails. And a hop skip and a jump to the beach. I will be traveling from April 28-June 4, 2024 so will not be on the property at all. When I am in Maine, the house is attached to my live work space. We share an entrance, mud room and outdoor space. However, when guests are around, I tend to keep to myself. This lovingly rebuilt 1200 sq. ft. renovated farmhouse is in the country suburbs of Auburn and sits on 1.5 acres, close to downtown Lewiston/Auburn (3 miles), and a hop skip and a jump to Portland (40 min), Freeport (25 min) , Brunswick (20 min) and the western Maine mountains. Ideal for visitors to Bates College, CMMC, or St. Mary's. Nestled between Durham and New Gloucester, easy access to the Maine Turnpike (95) or Rt. 136 (river road) to 295, or you can toodle along country roads. The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms: a main bedroom with adjacent bathroom with bathtub only, 2nd bedroom that sleeps two, and 3rd bedroom with bunk beds. The living room has a queen sleeper sofa. It is quiet, cozy and full of beautiful natural light. The house is filled with an eclectic collection of contemporary art, a record collection, film cameras to play with, and of course WIFI. I have a few yard games, board games, as well as some toys and books for the young ones. I try to leave a small carbon footprint and have home made or eco friendly products, recycle and compost. If there are a group of people, you have to be okay with sharing - the downstairs is an open plan, and it's a small house. There is a small bathroom with a small shower downstairs off the kitchen, and an upstairs bathroom with no shower, but you can have a luxurious candle lit soak in the claw foot tub. Sleeps 6 comfortably, and the pull out couch for two more. It's perfectly located to explore the lakes, state parks and farms that are Maine's best kept secrets. In the summer, Range Pond State Park is a 15 minute drive for beach lake swimming. And in the winter, Lost Valley ski mountain is a perfect beginners slope a 15 minute drive. It's a little over an hour drive to Sunday River. I'm often making things so there is usually a home cooked meal or bread waiting for your arrival. I encourage you to help yourself to whatever is in the fridge or pantry. Dogs are welcome, but please add them when booking. You also must clean up after them, vacuum dog hair and keep them off the furniture. I'm happy to help in anyway I can and if I'm in town be available when needed. I've lived in Maine for over 20 years and can recommend places to see and help plan day trips.
Tanja’s home was exactly what I was looking for. It was spacious, had everything I needed there, it had that comfortable feeling to it that made me feel like I was home and was in a very peaceful setting. Everything was clean and the beds were extremely comfortable! I probably slept better there than in my own bed at home. I especially enjoyed the very cool art throughout the home. I definitely hope to return again in future.
Tanja is an excellent host. The space is super cozy, unique and sunny. I felt like I was home.
Tanja could not have been more helpful in answering questions and making our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We absolutely loved the accommodations, decor, and location. The space was ideal for our group of five. We look forward to staying here again in the future!
Depending on the season, you can pick cherries, strawberries, blackberries and assortment of herbs and whatever happens to be growing in the vegetable garden. BBQ on the back deck or sit by a campfire. In the fall, leaf peeping and apple picking are close by. In the winter enjoy cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice skating or stop on your way to one of the close by mountains. Lake swimming is 10 minutes and beaches in under an hour.
The cities of the Androscoggin (Lewiston / Auburn) were known for their booming textile + shoe industry (Bass, Cole Haan, Dexter). The working class history makes it authentic and the opposite of a tourist destination. However downtown is being revitalized, and the millions of sq. feet of mill space are being repurposed for small businesses. The heritage of many residents is French Canadian and more recently an influx African refugees. You will see French bakeries side by side with Hallal stores.
There is plenty of parking, but not really any public transportation, Lyft/Uber is spotty. However there are taxis.
自我介绍
I'm a conceptual artist based in Maine. I love all things local, especially art, food, thrift stores and dive bars. I also enjoy hitting the road - I spent 6 years traveling and photographing the world, staying with friends so I understand what it means to make guests feel "at home." I am working on a large scale new multi year project about memory, self reflection and vulnerability.
