The house is set in a farming village, raised up above the awesome coastline of Asturias beaches, with a backdrop of green mountains. Asturias is known as a "paraiso natural" or "natural paradise" and that it is. The nearest beach is Otur - a beautiful sandy beach favoured by surfers, with a cave at one end, and a beach bar in summer. Just along the coast towards the pretty fishing village of Puerto de Vega is Playa Barayo, which can be reached by descending a scenic footpath. Further along the coast, after Puerto de Vega, is Playa Frejulfe, a long expanse of sand with a great beach bar set above the beach in summer months. Luarca, 10 minutes from the house, is a picturesque fishing town with some good restaurants, including El Sport and El Barometro, and the locals favourite Casa Consuelo, which lies just outside the town, and close to Playa Otur. Just over half an hour from the house is Tapia de Casariego, with it's port dotted with seafood restaurants, lovely beach and stylish seawater swimming pool carved out of the cliff. 10 mins further on from Tapia de Casariego, you reach the Galician border and the famous Playa de las Catedrales, which has spectacular stone arches visible at low tide. If you like running and/or cycling, inland from the house you can enjoy beautiful rural routes amongst the pine and eucalyptus trees, where you'll encounter very few cars and the odd milk truck.
