Our largest cottage set in its own extensive grounds with a pond (unfenced). This lovely cottage can accommodate up to 8 people, in 4 bedrooms. On the ground floor there is the Kitchen, spacious Lounge with open fireplace and dining area. Also on the ground floor there is one king sized bedroom and one twin bed room, and a shower room with WC . A carpeted staircase leads you to the first floor, which comprises of a Double Bedroom, a twin Bedroom and Family Bathroom. This is a traditional country cottage set back on the edge of a beautiful unspoilt country estate which affords lots of lovely exploring on foot .
A family of grandparents, grownup “ children” and grandchildren and one Ukrainian guest had a great Christmas together. There was plenty of space for everyone and a well equipped kitchen to cook a Christmas dinner to suit everyone. We enjoyed local walks straight from our doorstep.
Our family of five had a nice time at Smiddy Cottage. It is nestled in the countryside in an idyllic setting. Only a 6-7 minute drive to get into Turriff. We had a slightly difficult time finding the cottage at first, but we were able to call our hosts and get directions. Best to turn onto the road by Forglen Hall, drive about a half mile and Smiddy Cottage will be on the left. Overall a very pleasant stay, and I would certainly recommend to others.
Booked on behalf of colleagues who were delighted with their stay. Great host and would highly recommend, thank you again for hosting them.
The Estate is around 1000 acres, so there is a lot to see, everyone loves a walk around the estate, so you will undoubtedly meet a few people on your way around.
Walking, cycling, or by car.
自我介绍
Nestled in stunning Aberdeenshire countryside, Forglen Estate is a unique selection of private properties, farmlands, forestry and holiday cottages. The lands originate from 1211, with the original castle being built around 1346. This was replaced by the house that is standing today, finished in 1839 by Sir Robert Abercromby. The house is still in private residence, and not open to public, however we have a selection of holiday homes available to rent throughout the year. We are also a working farm, with a biomass heater that connects to some of the holiday cottages, and private fishing bookable upon request. We are a pro-wildlife Estate, and ask that all dogs be kept on leads if they have a tendency to roam, as we have an abundance of ground nesting birds along with fox, badger, deer, red squirrel, pine martens, and free range farm birds in different properties. We have a Walled Garden and a Glen Garden which is worth a visit and open for any holiday guest on Forglen Estate, just remember to shut the door to the Walled Garden before the rabbits sneak in! The Estate has a rustic modesty, with single track roads and pheasants watching you go by. You will hear owls hooting in the night, and often see deer prancing through the fields. We have the Abercromby Mausoleum to admire from the outside, however there is no entry inside as this is the one building still in ownership of the Clan Abercomby. The name Abercromby is of Pictish origin, meaning "a place on the bendy river" which is very suiting of Forglen Estate. There is private fishing which can be booked upon prior request, or you can just enjoy long walks along the river edge and see what wildlife you can spot in (and out) of the river Deveron. There is an office at Home Farm which is open periodically however I work remotely all over the Estate so it doesn't have specific open times. I am always contactable on my mobile though. If you have any further queries about the Estate, or a particular holiday cottage, don't hesitate to contact me.
