Beautiful place to spend our quarantine, would return again.

Stayed for 5 nights in September 2018. My daughter was getting married locally and the Swallows was a lovely setting for us to relax and get ready for the big day. Stylish interiors, very clean and we enjoyed a walk around the lake in the mornings. A great find with good local pub.

It is a very beautiful place and there is a quality about it in quiet moments (rare!) where it is truly still and peaceful. I did not have a good time here but this is because of problems with the listing and with the owner/manager Gaynor. I have noted these elsewhere in this review. In brief, it is advertised as a dog friendly location but this is only true for some dogs. The owner jumped down my throat on arrival. *Literally* as I stepped foot out of the car after a long journey she greeted me with a great deal of anxiety. I think this stems from her being extremely protective and proud of her properties (good) but this has transformed into an anxious state (very bad). She had a bad experience with owners who had labradors who allegedly left her property in a poor condition. It seems to me the problem here was with the guests not the dogs. She chose to transfer this anxiety onto me - *upon arrival* - no less. This meant I had an anxious and uncomfortable weekend. I would have cancelled and looked for a full refund for this type of behaviour but didn't due to being with other family and friends. I have noted that she must update her listing so under 'rules' it says 'one small dog' 'please let me know the breed of dog' etc. Currently the property does not make any note of any problem with any type of dog or dogs. I offered to vacuum the property on leaving it and she said 'Okay, yes'. I would normally leave a property in excellent condition (see my other reviews) but having to clean was stressful and a worry about the owners opinion. She effectively passed her anxiety onto me. Not what you want on a holiday! I note this as to me she was not a good host. In addition this property is *not suitable* for very young children - there is a very steep set of stairs, noted in the rules section, made of stone and wood but there is no gate. Children cannot be kept secure in the balcony section. Very lovely for older children though and adults. The property is quite busy with very close holiday makers (below - this is essentially a maisonette) and around the property. The property is located in a working stable (very nice if you love horses) twice whilst we were there the horses escaped and were loose around the chalets and fishery. The property overlooks a lake which is so serene but then accommodates 10-12 fisherman and on a Saturday and Sunday it is very busy with all the paraphernalia they bring. Fisherman turn up most days. Very early starts with lots of fisherman arriving by car and departing late into the evening. If you love Carp fishing you will love it! I would often see carp jumping out of the lake.
