Maison vieillissante limite dans son jus, de beaux volumes qui ont besoin d’être mis au goût du jour. Du modernisme lui apportera un haut de gamme non négligeable. Attention aux odeurs récurrentes des égouts. Des extérieurs bien sympathique et entretenus.

Caveat emptor Despite wanting to leave, we were here for three weeks, so got to know the quinta intimately. The exterior pool and gardens are lovely, plenty of space in shade and sun, well set out and maintained, mature trees, birdlife and quiet (aside from barking dogs at night). The interior however, is a disappointment. The design of the house is idiosyncratic, with inexplicably unexpected or uneven steps, stuffy bedrooms and damp bathrooms, or bizarre en suite cupboards hiding lavatories, basins and showers. The lavatories and washing machine smell intermittently of drains. The soft furnishings everywhere are tired and grubby looking. The beds are so cripplingly uncomfortable that we had to put the mattresses from the sun beds on top of them to be able to sleep. The kitchen is adequate but old, and some of the utensils, crockery, pans, glasses etc were damaged, or dirty. The house also seems to have been designed to capture the sun’s warmth for winter, one side effectively a greenhouse with a clear plastic roof and large windows, none of which open, making it stifling in summer. Closing the blinds makes no difference and because the house is open plan, the heat radiates through it. The children’s bedroom reached 32 degrees celsius at night. None of the large sliding doors on the opposite side have insect screens, so one faces the choice of locking in the intense heat (and stink of drains), or being devoured by mosquitoes. Even though we closed the doors in the evening, the mosquitoes were everywhere, hiding in curtains, clothes, bedding, bags and towels, under cushions, behind cereal boxes... There was no escape, despite wearing repellent, we were horribly bitten day and night. There were other problems, but there’s a limited word count. The house needs a complete overhaul and a thorough spring clean. It’s one thing to accept the faults if it’s your own home; it’s quite another to charge paying guests to stay. The “host” Belavilla did absolutely nothing apart from sending automated emails. When we tried to contact them, repeatedly, about the problems with the property, we were ignored. I would avoid any property that Belavilla list. Having been let down by them, we sought help from Airbnb. We have applied for a partial refund which we are still waiting to hear about.
