A wonderful stay on Luquina Chico with Albano and his family. We learnt a lot about life on Lake Titicaca, we could choose to participate in local activities as well as having time to enjoy the view, tranquility and fresh air. We enjoyed a picturesque and informative walk with Albano to Karina beach. Every meal was a delicious wholesome feast (Gladys and Albano are super chefs). Also easy to arrange a trip to Taquile island from Luquino Chico.

We had a lovely stay with Albano, Gladys and their 2 children. Firstly breakfast, lunch and dinner were included, hugely plentiful, traditional and absolutely delicious. It was a wonderful experience to dine with the whole family. Albano showed us his small holding and we got to walk his sheep back to the barn for the night which was really special as there was a 4 day old lamb. He took us for a lovely walk in the morning onto the mountain overlooking the village. There was the opportunity to watch the traditional dance and have a go (dressed up!) which although slightly ‘touristic’, as it was catered to a small tour group visiting, was good to see. The room was spacious for just the 2 of us. The bathroom was immaculately clean and had hot water in the morning. They gave us a little electric heater which was lovely and there was lots of blankets too. I cannot recommend staying with this family enough- a real window into this rural community and their way of life. As 2 20 year old students it was lovely to speak to Gladys who is 24 and was able to give us insight into growing up and working in this area. Albano’s English is much better than he thinks and they are both fluent Spanish speakers. To get there from Puno it is 5 soles in a combi which goes from a small compound 1 block from the bus terminal. It felt very safe and all the local people were very helpful. I would suggest getting a taxi driver to drop you there from the centre as it may be slightly tricky to find on your own. It is possible to get a taxi; it costs 130 soles each way which was out of our budget! I think getting a combi added to the experience! Thank you so much Albano and Gladys for your hospitality and generosity. We cannot recommend you highly enough!

El lugar es hermoso en medio de la naturaleza y frente al lago, la habitación sencilla, muy limpia, con muchas cobijas, baño agua caliente excelente lugar para descansar y estar en paz Gracias Albano, a su esposa Gladys y sus hermosos hijos Por la convivencia con Ustedes pase unos días espectaculares! La comida deliciosa! 100% recomendado!

I can't recommend Albando and Clarisse more highly. They're a young couple with two adorable boys. He is warm, welcoming, and willing to organize and accommodate anything you want to do. For example, he tracked down two kayaks so we could join an organized group. Clarisse is fun and a very good cook. Lots of hearty soups, rice, vegetable mixed in creamy sauce. Rooms were warm and cherry. Very comfy beds. Lots of warm blankets. Lovely hot shower. You can arrive fr Taquile by boat or Puno/surrounds by taxi or combo. About an hour drive from Puno, $40 for a taxi, $1 for a combi.
