This picturesque town is about 20 minutes north of Alajuela city and offers some of the most incredible scenery anywhere. Surrounded by mountains bursting with green foliage, the Grecia landscapes unfold across rolling fields. Stop along the way for fantastic views of the communities and valleys that stretch out below the town and the mountains that rise above it.
Don’t let the size of this town (about 17,000 inhabitants) fool you. Grecia has a variety of restaurants, cafes, and markets that cater to visitors with menus featuring tempting traditional dishes and grocers featuring fresh local fruits and vegetables. You can grab breakfast, lunch, and dinner while you’re in town to see Grecia’s impressive museums, metal church, and nearby waterfalls.

Bus: Public buses depart San Jose for Grecia at the crossroads of Avenida 3 and Calles 18 and 20. The hour-long journey costs approximately $1.75. Buses leave San Jose every 10 minutes between 5:40 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 6:00 p.m. to 10:20 p.m. (Transportes Grecia: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) - The same applies traveling from Grecia to San Jose. While in Grecia you can take taxis at a reasonable fair also.
