Casa Lilia is a true postcard of Florence, a tribute to the red lily, symbol of love, strength and royalty, themes very dear to the Renaissance. Starting from the sixteenth century, red will be the dominant color for the city of Florence. These were the years of flowering of young talents and creators as Leonardo da Vinci in which "Man and nature are at the center". An unique chromatic emblem capable of making your stay in the cradle of the most beloved art in the world truly unforgettable. Casa Lilia is an exclusive suite in the heart of Florence. The bedroom has two windows and overlooks the kitchen which has a counter where you can feel the magic of the house while enjoying some homemade dishes. The house is equipped with a library where you can browse "The Treasure", an 8-volume encyclopedia given to us by grandmother Lilia. The bathroom is a tribute to the lemons of southern Italy. a completely tiled environment where you can rest in hypnosis.
One of the best Airbnb we have stayed. The hosts are very kind, nice, capable and willing to help whenever we need. We forgot our clothing in previous Airbnb. The host tried her best to communicate with our previous Airbnb owner to figure out the best way to get our clothing back that even involved the host's family member to deliver the package to us. We felt so sorry to cost her so much trouble and would like to pay her the extra work, but she and her family member declined our offer. We had difficulty to book a taxi for our early morning departure. She was so willing to help and booked the taxi for us. We had a total worry-free stay in her apartment. We felt we were living in an old friend place instead of an Airbnb. The host has bottles of water, fruits and present on the table while we arrived---warmly welcome. The apartment has a unique beautiful design making people happy to live inside. It is convenient and has walkable distance to the main interesting places in Florence.
We had an amazing time at this stylish apartment! The design was top-notch and really made us feel at home. The host was incredibly hospitable and gave us fantastic recommendations for local restaurants and cafes. We tried one and loved it! Overall, a fantastic experience – highly recommend!
This place is a gem. The decoration, artwork, and stories behind the art were unique and gave so much character to this Fierenzan get away. The extra added touches of fruit, an invitation letter and the fierenzian alcohol was classy. You may get a power outage if you run the washing machine at the same time as the air conditioner-but that’s just Italy. My husband reset the power easily and we were back to normal. Just know there’s some stairs that may make it challenging for anyone with disabilities. Other than that, we loved the location and the very Tuscan decor done in a tasteful modern way-bellissima!
The Florentine neighbourhood of Sant’Ambrogio may only be 10 minutes’ walk east from the landmark Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio, but this part of the Tuscan capital has a distinctive character far removed from the tourist pizza traps and overpriced gelato. It’s a tight-knit community that is still genuinely Florentine and a food nirvana.
What brings all of Sant’Ambrogio together is undoubtedly its mercato: Florence’s first covered food hall, opened in 1873, a few minutes’ walk east of Piazza dei Ciompi, is surrounded by outdoor stalls selling porcini mushrooms, olives, porchetta and pecorino cheese straight from the Tuscan countryside. Clothes stands are piled high with bargain outlet designs and vintage brands, and there’s also a famous flea market.
A must try it’s the Pier Paolo Pollini emblematic panino lampredotto – tripe sandwich – who has been serving for 25 years from his food truck outside Sant’Ambrogio’s church.
Sant'Ambrogio is one of the oldest churches in Florence. This Benedictine female monastery was mentioned as early as 988 and its church was dedicated to Sant'Ambrogio, bishop of Milan who stayed in Florence between 393 and 394, consecrating San Lorenzo, the first Florentine cathedral, at the same time and then two minutes’ walk away discover an immense, exotic Moorish synagogue built by the Jewish community 140 years ago.
When hunger strikes, head for one of Florence’s most famous foodie haunts. Known colloquially as the Cibreo “village”, the beginning of via de’ Macci is home to renowned Florentine chef Fabio Picchi’s food “empire”, made up of a cafe’ (Caffe’ Cibreo), a fine dining restaurant (Ristorante Cibreo), an Asian-fusion-and-Florentine spot (Cibleo) and an entirely unique venue, the Teatro del Sale, which serves set-price buffet-style meals ahead of hosting nearly-nightly events, shows and performances, many of which get the audience directly involved.
The cooks themselves put on quite a show, calling out from the kitchen with aplomb each time a new dish is dragged out. Who says dinner can’t be its own form of drama? (Note: dining at the Teatro del Sale requires a membership card, but it can be purchased for a relatively low price upon entry).
Although arguably just beyond the borders of the Sant’Ambrogio neighborhood, the Le Murate complex is another must-stop in the area. Formerly a prison and now a vibrant cultural center, you’ll find a large open-air square, a contemporary art exhibition space, readings, lectures and live music year-round and a pizzeria—plus, it’s conveniently home to one of the city’s main ticket centers, Box Office, where you can review the range of theatre, concerts and sporting events happening around town and purchase tickets for myriad happenings on-site.
Casa Lilia is located in a strategic spot and equipped with a very convenient two-story garage at Sant’Ambrogio Parking.
