Murat was a wonderful host! He gave us a big list of local recommendations of his favourite restaurants and places to see which was extremely helpful. The flat was lovely and clean and had all the amenities we needed. Beautiful sea view from the balcony. Highly recommend!
Evde ihtiyaç duyabileceğiniz her şey mevcut. Evin konumu harika. Aradığınız her şey yürüme mesafesinde mevcut.
The spindly, 50 km long Datça peninsula in Turkey’s Muğla province is a dagger of pure green at the meeting point of the Aegean and the Mediterranean. The ancient Greeks believed Datça to have been created personally by Zeus, so gorgeous are its rocky outcrops and aquamarine waters. The geographer Strabo apparently said: “God sent his beloved creatures to Datça for them to live longer.”
Although this backwater peninsula is wedged between moneyed Bodrum to the north, and overdeveloped Marmaris to the south, bad road access and its distance from airports have left it unspoilt. The Marmaris-Datca Road is really fascinating with its heaven nature and the environment. While you are coming, on one side you will see the Gökova Gulf, and on the other side you will see the Hisarönü Gulf.
In Datca you may experience a quiet and calm holiday. As you travel out of Datca, you will find unspoilt bays and golden sandy beaches. One of the greatest things is its abundance of nature and that even in its city center, the beaches are pristine, which means that no matter where you are, you can simply go and take a swim in the beautiful sea.
One of the area’s most popular beaches is the Hastane Altı Plajı (Beach below the Hospital), with a name that harks back to the time when Datça’s State Hospital used to be situated here.
Eski Datça (Old Datça), is a beautiful patchwork of stone-paved lanes, kitchen gardens, pot plants, bougainvillea-drenched walls, and little cafes and shops. The old stone houses of Datça’s historic neighborhood have become quite famous, especially because the renowned poet Can Yücel lived and died here and his house is open to visitors annually on August 12th (Yücel’s death anniversary). In his poem, Testament, he wrote: “Bury me, my dear, in Datça. Near that view by the sea.”
Datca is located on the 71 kilometers southwest of Marmaris and 161 km west of Dalaman which is the closest airport. You may find regular buses from Marmaris or Dalaman during summer time. It takes about 1 hour 10 mins from Marmaris and 2 hours 45 mins from Dalaman with some lovely views. You should take bus to last stop which’s bus terminal.
To reach our building, you should come out of station, turn right, walk past municipality building, Migros (super market) and reach main road coming from Marmaris which veers right. Simply follow road in direction of harbor for 300m and find nr. 46 on the left line.
The distances from major cities to the peninsula are as follows; 792 km away from Istanbul, 729 km from Ankara, 335 km from Izmir if you plan to come by your car. The road from Marmaris (road number: D400) is the only way to arrive overland.
There are also ferries from Bodrum which is opposite shore of the Gökova Gulf, arriving at the port on the northern coast of the peninsula. From there, downtown is a 10-15 minute drive away. There are 3 round-trip voyage per day during summer time and it becomes less frequent during winter. It’s better to check their timetable from official web site. You can find it easily by searching Datca-Bodrum Ferry from search engines.
