Whoever took the pictures did a really good job. When I pulled up to dog patch and saw all the vacant buildings I couldn’t quite figure out where to go, but Rita kindly flagged me down and showed me the one in which we would be staying. I want to say that Rita was very kind. She did a great job! The place was clean inside, not neat or tidy, but clean. Rita was very nice as we completed the walk through and very accommodating. The space served our purposes very well which why we ultimately give 4 stars. Lots of rooms, good kitchen to work in (didn’t have to use the second except for a spare oven for one meal. Like I said the photos were misleading. I thought, what a great looking place! It described it as a house. But when I got there I had to relook at the online description to really reference what I thought I was getting into. This is an old hotel used by dog patch that was abandoned and is currently under remodel. The game room has only one arcade game (although three were pictured) and is pretty finicky on whether it works or not (we figured it out, but it was wonky), the pool table has a complete set with 2 cues that don’t have tips, the ping pong table is lopsided/warped - which we put a positive spin to say it added another level to challenge us. This was certainly not our group’s cup of tea! We liked the cabin, the location, didn’t mind being in an abandoned theme park (brought up lots of good zombie conversation) but what we didn’t like was all the trash everywhere. I think some people consider it art, but it seemed like rather than taking something to the dump, they slapped it on the wall. The wrap around porch wasn’t really usable because of all the “stuff” sitting on it -not really pictured. Perhaps it was too eclectic for us and we just don’t appreciate art - but frankly it seems like art can just be an excuse to be messy. We didn’t even get in the back where there was a fire pit because we couldn’t gather a dozen people - 1 because it was too small and two because there was too much junk around. I think a common statement through the group of 14 guys was that not one of the beds was comfortable. The description is correct that a lot of the beds are futons scattered throughout the house. Another odd feature was the flow of the house. In order to go to your beds, you had to go out the back door, walk down the porch a little and then back in (also where the second kitchen was) seems like it would be easy to cut a door so you could stay inside as you go from one per of the house to the other. It’s covered and fenced in well so it’s not a huge deal, just another weird thing about this place. We likely would stay again if we float the upper because it DOES accommodate a large group really well. I put a lot of negatives because no one else did and I didn’t feel like I had an accurate description of what I was getting into, but overall this is a positive review. It served our needs and we certainly appreciated Rita.

Mrs. Rita was a great host! The place was amazing! Honestly, nothing I had ever seen before! Definitely a great spot!

Would stay here again! The space was large enough to allow all the adults and children to have a good time-together and apart. :) We are all eager to come back and the kids are asking to return in the fall.

Of the many stays I've experienced in the past five year spanning multiple continents, this space was the most unique and ambitious. The art was so great, there are many things to do at the location, and there space fit our needs perfectly. I will always recommend this space, and plan on returning.

Rustic, clean and perfect for a large group with children! The game room was a great place for everyone to enjoy! Location to hiking, shopping and entertainment was great! Bring your skateboards as there is lots of room to ride. Will return again!
