We had an absolutely lovely holiday staying at Campanaro - the owners were very welcoming and friendly!! The house was incredibly clean - not a speck of dust or cobweb anywhere - everywhere was spotless. Having a private pool was amazing - we swam every day - and the location perfect. It was about a 25min drive to Lucca and close enough to walk to a small local shop and restaurants and really felt as if you were in the quiet countryside. The property is very traditional with shutters on all the windows- which took a bit of getting used to, but if you follow the owners' advice and keep the shutters closed, the house is cool and mosquito free at night! My one word of caution would be that there are a lot of ornaments everywhere, and I wouldn't want to stay there with small children as I'd worry the whole time about them breaking things! The owners do live in the bottom of the house but are very discrete, we weren't at all disturbed by them, and the house and garden feel very private.

Wir hatten einen wundervollen Aufenthalt in diesem hübschen Haus. Leider sprechen unsere Gastgeber kein Englisch, aber mit Händen und Füßen ging es dann schon. Sie sind beide extrem herzlich und zuvorkommend. Sie wohnen zwar im gleichen Haus, unsere Privatsphäre war jedoch in keinster Weise beeinträchtigt. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne wieder.

The best of Toscana. The home is a trip in the Italian Dolce Vita that comes with service 24/7 from the owners. They cook, clean, serve and most importantly share there humble life with you. Biggest respect to Signora V and Signor O per la grande impresa a contentare tutto il mondo. With a Global kids family is not easy to travel through out Italy because the Emancipation of Italians is almost non existent. Only at Varnias and Orazios we felt safe and welcome. Grazie Mile we be back…

We had unfortunately to make the very difficult decision to leave the place earlier than expected. The main reason was the high temperature in the house (it was 31C at 6am inside the house, 35C during the almost 2 days we were in), making our stay very difficult without a good sleep. We opened the windows in the middle of the night (although not strongly discouraged by the landlady as indicated by stickers in all windows). Basically, the landlady asked not to open any shutter during the day to make sure the light was not touching the antique wooden furniture, and not to open during the night to avoid insects. We were living in the dark inside the house during our entire stay. - next to this, as the house is full of antiques, there is very little/no space for us to put our food and luggage, besides in the freezer. There are notes everywhere about things that we cannot touch or open. It feels very much like in a museum. This is quite stressful, especially for a family with kids and we spent a lot of time to make sure our kids were not touching anything. I would not call the place 'kids friendly', and maybe not ideal for rental. - there was a very strong chemical smell in the entire house when we arrived (maybe against insects or naphthalin, giving the impression that the house was not open for quite some time). In combination with the high temperature, we could not breath well and our kids were complaining and coughing. - the landlord and landlady living next to the house are very nice and open but we heard them loud and clear when they were in their kitchen from the living room and kitchen and they even have access to the light of the house we rent, and even put it on/off. This didn't give us impression of privacy and independent housing. They had a direct access to the house by a thin door. All together, we didn't feel at ease at all during our stay. On a positive note, the swimming pool is pretty nice. The landlady living next to the house seems very nice. The area is residential, neutral but there are better places around Lucca.

Unser Aufenthalt in dem toskanischen Haus war wunderbar! Es war sehr sehr sauber. Die Besitzer des Hauses, Orazio und Varinia, sind sehr herzliche Menschen und haben uns nett empfangen. Deren toskanisches Menü, das sie für uns gekocht haben war sooo lecker! Das würde jedem empfehlen in Anspruch zu nehmen. Der Garten war wunderschön und der Pool wurde von Orazio immer gereinigt am Morgen. Wir haben gegrillt und entweder auf der Terrasse, oder sonnengeschützt am anderen Tisch draußen gegessen. Das Haus ist authentisch italienisch und man merkt, dass viel Liebe drin steckt. Die Großeltern der Besitzer haben dort einst gelebt. Wir haben dort eine wunderbar entspannte Woche verbracht und würden definitiv wieder dort übernachten!
