The price was very affordable for our last minute trip, but the unit needed a bit of TLC--while clean, some minor interior repairs were neglected, exterior general upkeep and maintenance of the structure itself didn't seem to be a priority--weathered and warped wood, light switches that didn't work, door knobs were loose, sliding doors didn't slide. Dogs in the unit directly next door constantly barked for most of our visit. A great price if you just need a clean place to put your head. Proximity to the beach was good.

Good location, cozy unit for two people, but needs some work to make it a memorable lodging. Not great, not terrible, not worth the expense. We enjoyed our stay, but probably would not return.

I have used Airbnb for many years now and this is the first bad review I've ever had to write. I tried to communicate concerns with Amelia Island Vacations but they have no concern for their guests. They said that everything we experienced was not true and told me to take it up with Airbnb. It's been one week now and Airbnb has not contacted me. The first negative experience with Amelia Island Vacations was poor communication. I reached out twice to ask for check in information and never got a reply. I finally called someone when it was nearly 4:00 and we needed to know how to get in. The woman on the phone said she would contact the cleaning person to contact us. We went to the grocery store and waited. My friends and I just wanted to get in and relax for the night. When we finally got in after 4:00 we could see immediately that it was not the quality that the pictures present it to be. The building itself looks like dilapidated, weathered wood. Once in, we were excited to open up the balcony doors. It is one of the draws of the listing. We tried very hard to open the doors but they wouldn't budge. Thinking that I must be doing something wrong I called Amelia Island Vacations. Only then was I told that the doors were sealed shut so that repairs could be done. We've had this reservation for many months. We should have been given this information. At the very least they should have left a note! The girl on the phone was polite and said she would talk to management about a discount. That seemed fair so we tried to make the best of it. I went to the rooftop patio to see how it looked. Half of it was closed off and the side that was open looked like it should have been closed! The wood on the stairs and the floor of the deck is buckled in many places with nails coming up. I told my friends that it was definitely not safe to risk going up there. We decided to stay in and watch a movie. We dimmed the lights in the kitchen for just a moment and that's all it took to bring out a German cockroach. We killed it and tried to be calm and think it was the end of it. But slow and steady as the night wore on they kept coming out. Mostly tiny babies at one point. Even coming out of the coffee maker. We kept killing them but it is a well known fact that these things breed rapidly and we could not risk them getting into our belongings to be taken back home with us. Not only that, how could we sleep with cockroaches coming out of the woodwork? It was midnight but we made the decision to leave. We had to pack up everything, including a lot of groceries and leave in the middle of the night. That was definitely not part of our plan. We are all older ladies who put ourselves in jeopardy going up and down the dilapidated steps in the middle of the night just to escape the roaches. We were willing to accept the other disappointments but this was NOT acceptable. As I was packing up to go I noticed that the bedspread had a cigarette burn hole in it. Besides the burn I realized that the bed looked messy and not clean. We made sure all of the dishes were done and the place was as we left it. I messaged Amelia Island Vacations immediately to give them details of what was happening. Including the code for the lock not working. As I stated before, they refused to acknowledge any of our experiences. They said they never had complaints before. I honestly don't know how that can be true. I chose this listing based on the good reviews and charming photos. But I now know the truth. We had a bad experience but it is made worse by being so disrespected. I have had wonderful experiences around the world with Airbnb. The hosts were genuine people who cared about the quality of your stay. Amelia Island Vacations could care less. There is no personal attention to detail. Airbnb is just another way for them to advertise. Hopefully, Airbnb will make the right decision in this case. I feel so disappointed and victimized. If Airbnb can't protect their loyal customers, what is the point of booking through them?
