Cornwall · 整套乡村小屋 · 2室3床1.0卫 · 可住5人 · Mill House in the heart of West Penwith Cornwall
The Mill House is situated at the head of an exquisite sub tropical valley attached to a 18th century water mill, which has a working water wheel. During school holidays are bookings are weekly Saturday to Saturday Mill house has its own entrance with a large patio which has a swing seat, and barbecue chairs/tables. There is an open air shared swimming pool not heated, (closed Oct to May) also a Sauna. We accept well behaved pets, but prefer them especially dogs not to be left all day. On entering the house there is a 40' kitchen dinner slightly split level with a large newly installed wood burner. The kitchen is well equiped with a beautiful round table in the centre, the floor is made of elm from our own trees which were felled in a storm 25 years ago, this year for the first time the floor has been re-sanded and varnished bringing out the grain of the elm. There is a large American style fridge/freezer with an ice dispenser, a dishwasher and washing machine. Leading off the kitchen up five steps is a spacious double bedroom. Upstairs to the first floor is a very large double bed/sitting room which gives the guest the feeling of being in the trees, in the early evening the sound of rooks roosting fills the air. On the landing is a single day bed which can be curtained off for privacy and a bathroom with a separate bath and shower. As well as a large wood burning stove downstairs (fuel supplied) there are efficient oil fired radiators in every room. Through a door which is kept locked on the kitchen side is a workshop with a full size billiard table, guests are very welcome to play billiards but please be aware this is not part of our holiday let, but a workshop with machinery so definitely not suitable for unaccompanied children.
Our stay at the Mill House was heavenly and I would not hesitate to go back! The setting is so beautiful — the house faces a rushing stream and is surrounded by an eclectic garden filled with incredible foliage of a kind you rarely see in the UK. Inside, the space is extremely comfortable, cosy, and well-stocked with everything you need to make yourself at home — a wood burning stove, a full kitchen, and super comfy furniture. We stayed in off-season so the pool wasn't open (and I'd love to return in the summer months for a swim!) but the sauna was amazing — the perfect chaser to a windy, wild cliff walk. The house is really close to lots of amazing nature (cliff walks, beaches etc) as well as pubs and beach cafes and plenty of ancient monuments. Jane is an extremely welcoming and helpful host. I cannot recommend this place more highly!
we had a wonderful stay in a very beautiful place , the place were the house is very beautiful and the water mill was really wonderful, the place is private and had all the amenities , would definitely recommend this place to everyone, really looking forward to visit this place again 😊😊
Jane was a fantastic host and made our family very welcome Cornwall is incredible would love to come back again!
Amazing place in a wonderful subtropical valley. And a very warm welcome by the host and her very friendly family. It´s a family community living there in different houses. The cottage for the stay is private. It was great to speak a bit to other family members and get an idea of the history of this place. The house is hidden in a very magical little valley, surrounded by great nature. You can just hear the sounds of birds and the little stream nearby. It was so much realxing for us. And just 10 minutes by car, we could be a the greatest beaches and hike around the beautiful south coast. We loved a lot the fireplace in the cottage and the Sauna in the garden! We would definitely come back here again!
Just returned home following a 3 night stay at Jane’s place… it was like stepping back in time and feeling instantly at home, all rolled into one! To be in an environment where generations of a family live together in the same valley brings with it a feeling like no other. You can imagine how blissful it must have been growing up here. Getting to meet some of the family and hear some of their stories from over the years was a real pleasure. Our dogs met the two resident dogs upon arrival and all got on really well throughout our stay, our children loved the freedom of the place, especially having a swimming pool to play in and a pool table to entertain ourselves with was a real treat. The property is an old Mill and was just as expected, quirky, filled with fascination and character, perfect! 👌
The Mill House is close to many beaches the safest for children is Sennen beach but there is also Porthcurno ( 1 1/2miles) where the famous communications museum is and up the hill at Porthcurno is the Minack theatre, which has always to be booked in advance if you wish to attend a show.
Penzance is the main town plentiful in shops/hospital/bus and train station Penzance has also the last petrol stations in the area.
On the outskits of Penzance are most of the main supermarkets.
St Ives is 30 mins away by car always good for a visit but parking is difficult there is a good park and ride at St Earth and a lovely train journey which hugs the coastline. Beyond St Ives are the spectacular moors of Zennor where many international artist got their inspiration and the novelist Virginia Woolfe wrote "To the Lighthouse".
The Mill house really requires a car as the nearest public transpot is a mile away up a hill although if you are fit it is a great cycling experience.
Most guests travel by car but it is possible to cycle from Penzance, there are buses to St Buryan St Levan which is a 20 minute walk for the fit.
自我介绍
I returned to Cornwall in 1996 after 30 years in London where i worked for the BBC as a documentary film editor. Although i dont live in the valley most of my family do, we inherited the valley with a water mill from our parents whose wish was that we kept it as a family haven. In order to do this we let the Mill house (airbnb) and the Mill cottage (small local family), solely for the upkeep of the place. I visit every Saturday to do a through check on the cleaning and leave sparkling wine and juice in the fridge for our guests to have on arrival. My sister Genevieve lives in the pole house nearby with our small family dog Charlie she is always around if you need help. I have run an airbnb for many years at my home in Sancreed and i am fully aware of the importance of guests needs to feel comfortable and happy for what maybe there only holiday in a year, please have no hesitation in asking for clarification on any matter. Kind wishes Jane
