Glandulas Fawr - The Badger Previously a stable, cowshed, barn, and hayloft The Badger is a three bedroom stone cottage set in the heart of the beautiful Tywi Valley in Carmarthenshire. Converted in 2020 from 19th century stone farm buildings this secluded (but not isolated) three bedroom cottage offers guests a cosy home-away-from-home. Set in the green, rolling Tywi Valley between Carmarthen and Llandeilo, it is ideally suited to walkers - being situated between the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks, and the Gower Peninsula. The Tywi and Cothi are renowned as the best sewin (sea trout) fishing rivers in the United Kingdom. The property forms two wings of a converted farm courtyard. Downstairs, it comprises a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen area, a separate TV snug, a twin bedroom (the beds can be zipped-together to form a super king), and a spacious shower room. Upstairs are a further two bedrooms (one twin and one king size) and a bathroom. Downstairs there are flagstones throughout; the upstairs bedrooms are carpeted. The cottage has gas central heating and a wood-burning stove in the living area. The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction hob, microwave, and dishwasher. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available on the premises. Wifi is available throughout. A fully enclosed private patio area and garden with a picnic table is available outside.
Beautiful cosy cottage. The Badger was very well equipped and perfect for our family of 5 (3 generations) and 2 dogs. Everything had been carefully thought of and instructions were clear and helpful. Martin is a friendly host and is close by, if needed, but not intrusive. The welcome basket was much appreciated. It was great to have ample parking space. The cottage is conveniently situated for touring. Carmarthen and Llandeilo are close by. A great place to go on a castle trail. The weather in February was very grey and rainy but it did not dampen our enjoyment of the holiday. The Badger was such a comfortable and warm place to return to. Cannot fault it.
A beautiful secluded and well designed barn conversion. Excellent hosts, very friendly.
This is a fabulous barn/milking parlour conversion, done with refined taste. There is plenty of room, the kitchen is modern and well-equipped and the beds were comfy. Our hosts were very welcoming and we enjoyed some fresh produce from the garden. Everywhere is a drive, but it felt like we were well-located for access to various attractions. We enjoyed the home-made flapjacks!
From the get go communications from Martin were great, right up to, during and after our stay. Very accommodating and nice clear instructions for everything. Property is located down a private drive about a minute or a nice morning walk from the A41 to which there is a local community shop that has most essentials if ever needed. I would say you are about twenty minute drive from Camarthen, opposite direction is Llandelio which is closer and with enough places for eating/food shopping options. Nice private secluded location so expect no noise bar the local cows, all very peaceful. The three bedrooms are all excellent sizes, downstairs bathroom is massive and has a great walk in shower. Kitchen was well stocked, the welcome gifts were much appreciated, flapjack went down great after our walk to the nearby castle ruins. Nice to meet Martin on arrival, is on site but never saw site or sign of afterwards. Highly recommend this location as a base for the area as a getaway from it all
Lovely space in the Tywi valley, perfect to stay if you want a sample of the different bits of Wales! Near enough to the coast, including the gower, pembrey sands, and pembrokeshire for day trips, perfectly situated near several castles including Dryslwyn, Dinefwr, Carreg-cennen, and Kidwelly, and just south of the rolling hills and valleys en-route to Builth Wells. The property itself was spotless, set in part of an old farm complex, with all the rustic charm that implies. Despite that, mod-cons like TV were readily available. 2 large communal areas let everyone spread out comfortably, and the large dining table was incredibly useful when playing board-games. Trips out to Llandeilo and Carmarthen were nice enough, and Llanelli and Swansea are nearby for larger shopping trips if required. Altogether, despite raining incredibly heavily one night, it was a lovely place to stay and explore. Would definitely visit again.
Carmarthen is our nearest large town - 10 miles away - and has two major supermarkets as well as all the standard High Street shops and a multiscreen cinema. Llandeilo is only five miles away and is a small, pretty town full of pastel-shaded houses and mostly independent shops, art galleries, restaurants and bars.
A local community-run shop and post office is a 20 minute walk from the cottage.
For garden lovers, Aberglasney and Wales's National Botanical Gardens are within a few miles, while Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Path provides miles of traffic-free cycle paths. The county is full of ruined castles including (amongst others) atmospheric Carreg Cennen, Llansteffan, Kidwelly, and our own local castle at Dryslwyn - just one mile down the road.
You will need to have a car to fully appreciate the area - as public transport is limited. Hiking in the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast are all within driving distance. The nearby Brechfa Forest is very popular with mountain bikers. Or the local country lanes are a delight for a gentle stroll if you want something less strenuous.
