Garden Grove Retreat & Lodging, a historic Catholic retreat center, is located in the quaint Village of Garden, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Located on 40 acres of beautiful grounds and cedar forest, Garden Grove provides a relaxing respite from the stresses of life, a place where you can enjoy the quiet countryside, hiking on-property, and nearby access to Lake Michigan, Garden Bay, and Big Bay de Noc. 1.25 hours to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. EASY SELF-CHECK-IN. This cozy bedroom is on the 1st floor of the historic Garden Grove Retreat. Two windows overlook the grounds. Comfy queen bed is perfect for your couples getaway on a budget. Dorm-style bathrooms are located just down the hall.

This was one of the cleanest air bnbs we’ve stayed at. Also super accommodating, they’ve thought of everything, down to make up towels, extra towels and pillows, and girly supplies in the restroom. We could bring our dog and they offered complimentary breakfast. I would 100% stay again!
We loved staying at Nicole's Retreat. The breakfast was wonderful, and the staff was friendly! Our dogs were treated as family. We will return!
Had a great stay here!! The bathrooms & showers were so clean for a shared space! You can tell people we’re cleaning up throughout the day to make sure all shared spaces were clean. Just make sure to let the water run for a few minutes in the shower- it does get hot! :) Perfect for what I needed traveling around the area for a few days!
Nice place, good value for money, sparkling clean, quiet. Highly recommend, I hope we'll have the chance to pass by again :)

Garden Grove Retreat & Lodging is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on the beautiful Garden Peninsula in the quaint Village of Garden.
You'll find almost forty acres of groomed grounds and cedar forest to explore. We're a mile from The Dock Grill and Bar. Inside our retreat center main lobby is the Grove Coffee & Cafe. Just down the street you'll find an art gallery. Just one block away is a mini-mart with all your convenience needs.
Perfect headquarters for touring the central U.P.:
- Garden Bay access at the Garden Bay boat launch - 1 mile south on M-183.
- Sand beach swimming - 10 mins south to Fayette State Park beach (next road past the State Park entrance), 10 mins north to Tylene's at Garden Corners, 20 mins to Rogers Park in Thompson, 25 mins to Indian Lake State Park
- Hiking, sightseeing - Fayette State Park and Ghost Town (10 mins), Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (1 hour), Big Spring/Kitch-iti-kipi (25 mins)
- Fish off the dock - Snail Shell Harbor at Fayette State Park
- Charter boat, pontoon, or kayak rentals - Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (1 hour)
- Boat, kayak, SUP, and jet ski rentals are available in Escanaba at Richard's Boatworks (50 mins) - call ahead.

I grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. After graduating from Escanaba High School, I headed off to college in the Detroit suburbs and spent a lot of years 'below the bridge.' We returned to the U.P. in 2001 to raise four children in God's Country. During the next decade I wrote three books, ran a lodging business, and worked for a corporation. Now with the kids grown and gone, I'm excited to enjoy a career in marketing consulting and -- my favorite -- being an Airbnb Superhost. Life is always a big adventure!
