Cromer, perched on the very edge of the north Norfolk coast, is famous for its tasty crabs, wide open beaches, a traditional pier complete with a theatre providing seaside special variety shows and is awash with small local independent shops. As you would expect of a seaside town rich in its fishing heritage, it has a lighthouse and a proud tradition of RNLI service. It has been said that the lifeboat service is the lifeblood of the town and the Henry Blogg Museum offers a great insight into the service's past history.
In Cromer you will find a vibrant Norfolk town with a wide variety of cafes, restaurants, shops, local art galleries and food stores with local produce including several fish shops featuring the famous Cromer crab.
Cromer is proud to boast two blue flag beaches to explore on foot and the fabulous pier jutting out 500m into the sea with its end of pier shows is a great spot to try crabbing for yourself! The award winning North Norfolk coast path passes through the area and means great scenic walks are easily accessible. The town has a range of artistic, cultural and educational activities on offer. The mainly Victorian town of Cromer is ideally situated for exploring North Norfolk, the Broads, Norwich and beyond. With regular train and bus links to the Broads and Norwich and the Coasthopper bus service it is easy to explore North Norfolk. During the months of March to October there are several historic homes to visit, including of course the royal home at Sandringham as well as National Trust properties at Blickling & Felbrigg.
Golf Courses and Golf Clubs in North Norfolk offer a wonderful range of golf from links courses in Sheringham and Cromer to picturesque golf courses in Fakenham, Middleton and Heacham.
RSPB sites such as Cley and Tichwell marshes are a short drive away, as are the seal trips by boat at Blakeney.

There’s no onsite parking, due to the Cottages central location, but the long stay car park on Cadogan Road is the best place, you can get a weeks parking pass from the machine for £28, a day for £7, 2 days for £14, etc. these passes are valid for all North Norfolk Councils car parks in other locations, there’s a list of ones you can use on their website and in our info folder.
One of the pearls of Britain’s long coastline, the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is well served with public transport. You can easily arrive in the area by train or bus, and spend days or even weeks exploring the best of it without a car. And even if you’ve arrived by car, the buses and trains are a really tempting alternative: they are remarkably good value, there’s no hassle about parking or driving, and you can enjoy the views of the countryside as you go.
And there’s a very useful little bus called the CoastHopper, which operates regularly along the coastal road (A149) between King’s Lynn or Hunstanton and Sheringham. Parallel to it runs the Norfolk Coast Path, the area’s undisputed gem for walkers: easy walking takes you through the loveliest landscapes, along sea dykes above reed beds, past huge saltmarshes, along magnificent beaches, past ancient round flint church towers and within sight of windmills.
There is a train service from Norwich to Sheringham, via Cromer. Called the Bittern Line, it is also a useful way of getting to the Broads National Park and the magnificent cathedral city of Norwich, which has one of the finest historic centres in Britain. Then there are other bus services, and two heritage railway attractions that link in with the CoastHopper and national rail services.
