Breb's Cosy Barn is located in the heart of the historic region of Maramures, in northern Transylvania. It is an old traditional wooden barn placed in a wonderful, green private garden within the charming village of Breb. Transformed into a beautiful, alternative living space, vibrant and full of light, it gives life to the old wood and to objects once forgotten. Furbished with comfortable beds and all the necessary kitchen tools it's creating a cosy atmosphere with flavours of past times. The guesthouse in which I'm welcoming you, is placed in a beautiful green garden, in one of the most well-known traditional villages of Transylvania ...here you can still admire the archaic way of life, people being close to nature and working the land upon ancient method es...I felt in love with Breb and I decided to live here... I love old traditional wooden houses, I live in one and now you can experience all of this as all. Starting from the way this Barn was originally built, is now divided in 2 independent areas (2 separate entrances ,2 kitchens, 2 bathrooms and 2 large bedrooms) which can be rented separately or the entire house if you are a bigger group, enjoy and have it all for you! I call them apartments....The small one was made where once was the animal stable...now turned into a cosy room with a reading/singing/resting corner, a nice kitchen where you can make your cofee, prepare breakfast..and so on. A small-cute bathroom with shower, up the stairs is a large bedroom with one matrimonial bed, one single children bed and if needed a comfortable chair-bed for the second child. The second apartment is bigger, used to be the place of the horse cart, the barn with hay and a small room where the family once stayed...now it is a spacious kitchen, a bright living room with views of the garden on two sides, the large staircase that goes up in an open space bedroom where a family/group of 4-5 people can sleep confortable without being crammed. There is space for an extra chair-bed or baby-bed. Outside in the garden you have more options where you can eat/sit/relax...have a good time with your friends and family. Children are very welcomed , they have a great playground around and about... well behaved dogs who travel with their family can enjoy their holiday too.

Wow, just wow!!! Staying at Cosy Barn was just the retreat we were after. Maria has created two beautiful homes in traditional style, but finished to modern standards. (The kitchen had everything we needed, including a moka coffee maker! And the shower was wonderful!) The gardens are an idyllic respite from the world, peaceful and beautiful. We loved relaxing in the sunshine, with only birdsong and tractors as our soundtrack. Our children (8/10) were in seventh heaven on the trampoline and playing with Maria’s cats, dogs and pony. Maria was the most wonderful host - warm, kind and helpful. She made us feel very welcome and went out of her way to help us get the most out of our stay. Thank you! NB. We travelled in mid-April, out of season. Breb was beautifully quiet and free of tourists. But this also meant there was only one restaurant open in the village.

This is hidden gem for a real slow tourism! The house is super comfortable with beautiful details. The location is perfect for trekking with kids and the village is really nice and autenthic.
Breb's Cosy Barn is just perfect. The barn is indeed very homey and beautifully decorated with a lot of traditional objects. For us, a family with 3 children, it had everything we needed: comfortable beds, a very well equipped kitchen, a huge yard with places to run and play, beautiful sunsets. Maria is an exceptional host: she gave us a lot of useful tips about Breb and the surroundings, helped us with fresh eggs and cheese and the most important..she had some very smart and loving dogs that our children loved. We definitely plan to return..if you ask our children, they would return tomorrow:)
Don’t miss out on the coolest place to stay in Breb! We had the most wonderful time, the barn is mesmerizing, blending the traditional with an artsy and cosy redesign; it really shows Maria put her heart and soul into it. You get lost into the finer decor details like upcycled objects or local art pieces. We stayed for almost a week and there wasn’t anything we didn’t have, the house is equipped with everything you could need (and we even attempted some cooking). There are plenty to do around, like cycling through the near villages or hiking to Creasta Cocosului; Maria was very helpful with everything. But I guess more importantly, you can get to know the locals, explore Breb and enjoy the quiet starry evenings by the fire at Maria’s cosy barn.

From Breb's Cosy Barn, placed off the main road, in a quiet part of the village you can, you can start exploring the charming village, or if you are a nature lover, just take the right and get lost in magical hay fields, wildflowers, accompanied by dragonflies, butterflies, birds songs and just let yourself be enchanted by the amazing nature. You are close to many of the wooden churches of Maramureș, enlisted on the UNESCO heritage list and the Merry Cemetery from Sapanta. You can relax with a book and a drink in the hammocks under the old walnut tree, or take a hike on the spectacular Creasta Cocosului and be on top of the world for a while. Bicycle trips in the whole area are a great option too! In the village you will find 2 small, charming restaurants with patio where they serve delicious local food. You can reconnect with the past by visiting The Village Museum and The Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance from Sighetul Marmatiei.
Breb is located in Maramures County, northen Transyilvania. The closest cities are Sighetul-Marmatiei at 30km away, an old city at the border with Ukraine and Baia-Mare at 55km, the county seat of Maramures. Both are interesting cities to visit. If you don't have your personal car, which of course is the easiest way of travelling, you will find a bus that can bring you to Breb. Baia-Mare also has a small aeroport and in Cluj -Napoca, 180km away there is a bigger airport where you can rent a car and get here.

I live in Breb, Romania with my daughter ....we recently moved here from the big,bad city :)))) to enjoy a more simple,natural way of life. We love animals therefor we are vegetarians and we have animals part of our family. Life in the country side in our little community is mostly rewarding but we also love to travel and welcome travelers to experience our village life.
