Our traditionally designed Cottages, located on the edge of the Shivapuri National Park, is your home-away-from home when visiting Nepal. Shivapuri Heights Cottages provide an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of the City whilst having the advantage of being only 30 minutes drive plus a short walk away from the city centre. Situated in the Himalayan foothills at an altitude of 6000 feet and surrounded by trees this Kathmandu home stay allows for tranquil rejuvenation in a quiet rural setting without traffic jams and urban pollution. Enjoy healthy home cooked meals made with fresh locally grown ingredients. Stretch your legs whilst hiking to nearby Monasteries. We welcome both individual travelers and small groups. Three rooms in our main Cottage, two in our smaller Cottage and two rooms in our Jasmin House provide comfortable accommodation to suit a variety of budgets. This is a great base to explore the local forest and nearby Monasteries and Villages. Taxis can be arranged to take you down into Kathmandu for sightseeing etc.
Shivapuri Heights Cottage is located approximately 7 kms north of the centre of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.
The Cottage is perched on a hill side looking down into the Kathmandu Valley and provides great views of the valley. Situated at an altitude of around 6,000 feet and located on the edge of the protected Shivapuri National Park it provides clean air and an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu without having to travel too far.
With prior notice we can arrange reasonably priced transport from the airport or another hotel. Our 4WD drive vehicle will bring you directly to the foot of the hill where the Cottage is located. From there it is a short 3-5 minute uphill walk and our staff will assist with your luggage. Note that we have approximately 176 Steps to reach our main jasmine House. Guests must be reasonably active.
If coming by taxi please ask for the Hari Krishna Centre (also known as ISKON) located near to Bhudanilkantha (also known as Narayantan). A taxi will not be able to come up the hill and from the Hari Krishna Temple it is a 10-15 minute uphill walk. Follow the signs or call us for directions. It is also helpful if you call in advance to let us know an approximate arrival time and if you require lunch to be prepared.

The Nepali and British resident owners look forward to welcoming you and offer you the opportunity to observe and participate in local ceremonies and customs. Neeru is from an area of East Nepal and traveled extensively when she was an air-hostess with Royal Nepal Airlines. Her interests are cooking and gardening and she looks forward to sharing some of her Nepalese recipe secrets with you. Steve Webster was born in Jersey Channel Islands of the United Kingdom and traveled to Nepal in the early 1980s to work with the famous Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge. He spent five years in the jungles of Nepal, managing several lodges and camps and studying wildlife, and he trekked extensively in Nepal while working as Director of Sales for our Nepal outfitter. In Kathmandu, Steve overseas the running of the Himalayan Children's Foundation, which educates underprivileged and orphaned children from remote mountain districts. In Bhutan, he is involved with a project that supports a family-run traditional art school outside of the capital, Thimphu. Steve has also guided journeys in Tibet, including the ethereal setting of Rongbuk Monastery below the North Face of Everest. I originally came to Nepal on a holiday 20 years ago. That holiday has turned into a non-stop adventure of a lifetime. He speaks fluent Nepali. Steve originally travelled to Nepal on holiday and never left. Both of us welcome your interest and any questions you may have.
